Gerry w 2 #1 Posted December 30, 2010 We have a winner!! I need to first off thank Charlie for calling me and walking me though this, thanks so much my friend! I have been looking for a answer to my D Blower shaft/CV Joint/coming apart or getting really sloppy issue for awhile now. Couldn't find the parts, couldn't find a repair shop here in the sticks, couldn't find bushings to tighten things up with. It was getting ugly, and I couldn't find the $$ for Sparky's most Excellent D blower he had for sale! (Damn it!) I had just bumped my wanted ad for the parts after taking another look at the shaft on the Vermonster...NOT good! I also had many eyes looking for me too. Charlie saw my ad and had me give him a call. Seems he has used a Cub Cadets shaft in place of a D's for a blower or some other app. Gave me the info needed, part number, and even told me how there were some on ebay at that moment! (No, he wasn't selling them!) Long story longer, put an offer on a "new" drive shaft, got it today, changed out slick as snot, and the Vermonster is set to go!! Got the shaft for $50.00, cheap IMO, and not a whole blower, just the parts I needed! Thanks again Charlie! You are amazing in my book! Just wish you and your family didn't live so far away!! dgoyette 12 #2 Posted December 30, 2010 Cool Gerry! Glad that worked out and that is great information on the cub shaft. Are you going to post the part numbers for anyone who needs them in the future?
Gerry w 2 #3 Posted December 30, 2010 Cool Gerry! Glad that worked out and that is great information on the cub shaft. Are you going to post the part numbers for anyone who needs them in the future? I'd LIKE to Darren, BUT I have seemed to have lost the info, and I deleted the info from my ebay purchase. WHEN I find it I will do that. Those things are NLS of course, and when their gone your dead in the water!

Gerry w 2 #6 Posted January 1, 2011 Okay, D blower power shaft, or whatever....The replacement is from a 36inch Cub Cadet snow blower, compressed length is 12.5 inches, extended is 14.5 inches, and has a 3/4" shaft with a 3/16 key slot. First pics my "old shaft.... and now the Cub shaft installed on the Vermonster! :ychain:
Rollerman 290 #7 Posted January 1, 2011 Gerry looks like a sweet conversion! Are the universals on the CC shaft greaseable?
Gerry w 2 #8 Posted January 1, 2011 Thanks Stephen! Yes they are! As is the splined shaft it'self! I believe it's an upgrade over the original! Just sprayed silicone in the chute, tried to turn the blower as I've always been able to and now I can't!! Can't wait to see how it operates now! MaineDad 87 #9 Posted January 1, 2011 Great news Gerry! That is a great example of how forums like this help people. Way back when, you would have spent a lot of money buying a new blower!
Gerry w 2 #10 Posted January 1, 2011 Great news Gerry! That is a great example of how forums like this help people. Way back when, you would have spent a lot of money buying a new blower! Your 100% correct Micah, because of contacts made thought this site and others I have a "tractor friend" base that really helps me out! (You should know!) And although I'd LIKE to keep buying new tractors and attachments I'd like to remain married too! :ychain:

Gerry w 2 #12 Posted January 2, 2011 Hoping to find somewhere to get it repaired, there must be a way! Thanks for all the help though Randy!
clintonnut 126 #13 Posted January 2, 2011 Looks good on there! I think the inner joint yokes should be lined up though not on a 90 degree offset. There mightbe aligning marks on the shaft
Gerry w 2 #14 Posted January 2, 2011 Looks good on there! I think the inner joint yokes should be lined up though not on a 90 degree offset. There mightbe aligning marks on the shaft Thanks Charlie! I'm not sure I understand what you mean?? I should have the "Y's" on the shaft going the same way as they are placed together? So Y should match Y ??? :ychain:
Operator 7 #15 Posted January 2, 2011 Yup that is what he means Gerry, might get a vibration the way it is now. A machine shop could cut the joint off and then get a new one welded back on, needs to be precisely balanced. $$ The joint is around$35 +. Randy
Gerry w 2 #16 Posted January 2, 2011 Just means I need to take one half off and put it on to match. Take about 15 minutes, glad he caught it! One half just slides over the splines of the other one, I just put it on wrong... Thanks to all.. :D
