dgjks6 6 #1 Posted December 28, 2010 This is getting old. I have the day off - plan to start the rebuild and run into problem after problem. So I drop the head and do this: but I can live with that no to the head leveling I can slide the .003 under one side without resistance. By the bolt hole there is some resistance, but between them nada. So can I keeo sanding the head (with the glass and 600grit - tried 800 but did nothing) The arrow points to the high spot. Am I being too anal? Does it matter that much?
rmaynard 14,898 #2 Posted December 28, 2010 Try using a coarser grade of sandpaper. I start with 150, then 220, and finished up with 320. You don't need to use such fine grade. You're not going to paint it, you only want it flat.
Kelly 1,028 #3 Posted December 29, 2010 I'd use coarser paper also, just finish up with at least 320 or finer.
WH nut 553 #4 Posted December 29, 2010 Run it, your gasket will take up the difference
Coadster32 793 #5 Posted December 29, 2010 I'd just use a smooth file big enough to go across the head. I've only lapped a head once, and haven't seen the need to do it again. I do agree, once it's flat, the gasket will do the rest. Nice rebuild by the way.
