I'm interested in this one but I'm not sure what year or model it is. I also don't know if its stock or put together.Any thought would be appreciated. Jim.

Looks like a '60 or '61. Could be either a 550 or 551 by the looks of the engine (if that's an H55 I see). Others will chime in.

1960 400 or 550.

pics from front, back and other side would give more details.

It does have what seems like the electric start H55 so I would guess a 550. Definately not a 551.

I almost forgot. What do you all think would be a reasonable price for this in this condition?

I call 550. Not the original engine though - but close. :ychain:

A reasonable price would be $50 to $75.

Didn't the 550 have a 58 type seat (holey round seat), and the 551 have a solid round seat? Or was that a standard Wheel Horse "variable"? :ychain: By the way, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it. And that would be a stretch.

That about sums it up.

I've seen both types of seats on all 4 models.

I WOULD SAY A 1960 550. WRONG ENGINE THOUGH. YOU HAVE A H50 OR H60. IT IS NOT AN H55 ENGINE. THEY HAVE AN INTERNAL OIL PUMP. THE PRICE IS UP TO YOU. I HAVE GAVE MORE FOR SOME THAN THEY WORTH, TO OHTER PEOPLE. BUT THEY WERE WORTH MORE THAN MONEY TO ME. THIS ONE APPEARS TO BE IN THE $100 -$125 RANGE TO ME. JIMMY

Thanks for all the input.I was thinking about the same for a price. If i pick it up it's gonna be a long term project anyway so I don't mind if its in rough condition. If its not worth restoring it might make a good hot rod project without destroying a good original to do so. I'll post some better pics. if I wind up with it.Thanks again. Jim.

JMW, I think it's a '60, 400, frame is not set for battery has firewall.

Hood is slotted for slide throttle & choke not push pull!

Engine has electric starter, not original. I've vewed this one it's ruff!

Parts or rat rod for sure! Or ugly tractor award! Front rims are rotted clear threw!

Wouldn't bid more than $100 bucks it will part out at that price!

:ychain: HORSEFEATERS!

It is rough and $100 is my limit. Anything more and it would not be worth the 3 hr drive to get it.

Uh... The 1960 model 550 had electric start. The battery and solenoid were mounted inside the tool box.

My vote is this one's a 550.

You know even though everything looks so rusty....it looks like it could be saved with a little work.

All the sheet metal's there.

Are the throttle/choke levers still with it?

Looks like a fun project, a couple empty cans of penetrating oil & a nicer tractor in the end.
