NorthDorset-20101224-00063.jpg

Thought I'd post this, for a bit of fun:

My tractor, I'll call her ... Prancer (as it's christmas) has 6 non-standard mods or alterations that I have installed on her. Some are easy to spot, some are not and one is "tricky".

To help you along I'll tell you some of the things that are NOT mods.

-Rust

-Fading paint

-Dents

-Tyres

-Missing knobs

-And peeling stickers!

You may see something I can't, but my list of 6 are the answers.

You don't have to be a "techy whizz" to play, just lucky!

The winner will be the one who gets all 6 to match me.

So go on .... Have a go .... There is no prize as I model myself on Scrooge!

Answers will be posted on Boxing night (26th)

Merry Christmas!

p.s A better picture may have helped ... but thats life!!

Rex. :D:ychain:

(1) I'm seeing a open area in the belt guard for better air flow?

(2) Looks like you have the taller front spindles from a model with 6" front wheels for higher clearance with the 8" rims.

(3) Floor boards are widened & grated to allow debris to fall through or non slip.

(4) Front weight?

(5) I give up, but I am curious about the bolt in the frame & spring below the PTO, also the solenoid at the front?

Hmmm....

1) Vented belt guard. Great idea for the rear cylinder!

2) Front weight setup in the attach-a-matic.

3) Holes in the running boards. I assume for muddy boot droppings :ychain: ?

4) Rectangle slot in the running board for a belt to run thru maybe :D , tiller?

5) Bolt sticking out of frame with spring attached going to the PTO bale. For vibration dampening maybe :D .

6) Hitch pin in running board but I have no idea why.

Mike.......

1.Hood mounts have bolts , should have a pin

2.Front weights look like landings gear for a trailer (dolly)

3.Belt guard vented

4. Slot at back of foot rest

5.Expanded metal floor boards

6.The exhaust has been cut off ( could be an illusion)

7.the bolt going through the frame with a spring

8.What about the solenoid , is that the right location?

ALso looks like a heat-baffle above the muffler.

Rear Wheel Weights carriage bolts have their nuts on outside (?).

Since I am not into the newer horses...I would say if this is supposed to be a 702...there is a lot of stuff wrong here. :ychain:

In fact...I do not see anything right except the rust. :D

In addition to the above, what's the thing that looks like a rod running transverse of the frame underneath the rear axle? It doesn't look quite right for the spreader on the rear tachamatic hanger. Also, since I don't know anything about the controls on a hydro, what's the thingy that looks like a coat hook on the console just ahead of the rear fender?

I was looking at the picture gallery and in the section from I think from 1987 to 2007 , well look at this

P6250018.jpg

there is a additional cover on the side at the foot rest and looks like it could cover those holes in the belt guard / cover and at the rear fender? :ychain: I think it said this is a 518 Euro

That guard covers the drive belt for the PTO-powered collector that mounts to the rear of the tractor.

I'll take a stab, and I assume its a 516,18,20 from 1988-90

1) front spindles

2) at least the foot rest in veiw has been altered

3)drive belt gaurd

4) hood hinge bolts should be 1/4 -20 and looks like ya have 5/16 carriage bolts

5) rear rims dont look like they have the right offset? so Im goin with rear rims

6)Hmmm ya got it setup for a tiller, the bolt in the frame is for the tiller belt tensioner, but the front weight for sure is a mod

HO Ho Ho

Update: :ychain:

Well this was a useful exercise just to learn a little more about my tractor! - (518 hydro)

So far you've touched on 5, it's tricky 6 that might fox you.

Duff:- That "thingy" on the top of the pump engage lever ... that looks like a coat hook ... yeah you guessed it's a coat hook! :D

-Must try to find a proper knob, (no longer available from toro i'm told) but the coat hook stops the idler rattling ... but it's not one of the mods!

You're close, answers tomorrow night!

Rex :D

On the older ones, they used 2 knobs and a screw. Part numbers are knobs 8722, 8693, and screw 911747. The screw went thru one knob and crewed into the other...

Ok ... nearly there ...

:ychain:

Will post the answers in about 4 Hrs (my bedtime)

But for now i'll give you the "Red Herrings".

Cut out in running board (for belt for rear mount collector....factory)

Long bolt on frame with spring (tension for mid mount)

Hitch Pin in running board (so i don't lose it!)

Cut off silencer outlet (optical illusion)

20 amp fuse in 30 amp fuse holder above solenoid (me taking the p*ss) :hide:

Hope if you've played along, you've enjoyed ...

If you looked and didn't ... Baa' Humbug! <_< :D

Times up!

This was for fun remember, with 600+ veiws a few of you must be going

:DB):ychain: and :D

Be aware; there's at least 2,000 miles of Atlantic between us,..so i feel pretty safe.

('corse there's always the UK mob.... :D

My list;

1 bolts and nuts for Bonnet hinge points

(stops rattles)

2 Long spindles

(crop clearance)

3 Belt guard chop

(cooler rear cylinder)

4 Catwalk running boards

(mud free driving)

5 Detachable weights

(counter balance for tiller or cultivator)

And tricky 6

Front attach-a-matic Bumper/weight carrier

Not to hard was it ??

Maybe a point of interest to some;

The belt guard mod highlights the amount of trash that gets through the chaff screen. i've only mowed a couple of times with this tractor, but when i have it's amazing how much crap gets blown through the mesh.

Air flow on an air cooled engine is key.

Hope this helps somebody

Rex...gotta tell ya...I don't have a bonnet on my 702. :D Seriously, this is a great exercise in trying to find out what is right and not right on the horses. I have been throwing that around with my 502...If I am going to restore it...I need to know what is right and what is wrong. What a great way to tackle that problem, then to show some pictures and ask the experts. :D I would like to see more of this...

On the other side...John (AzTrooper)...seems to share my since of humor...Oh Oh B) ...going to make the Penn show this year John??. Already looking forward to it...and it would be great to meet you there. After the heat last year, and if it the same way this year...you will be the only one in a sweater. :D :D
