CasualObserver 3,411 #1 Posted May 2, 2008 Unless I'm mistaken... it looks like there's an SR-64 kit on this tractor! It's on right now... i think we've commented on the tractor itself before either from EB or CL... I just noticed it when he said the belt guards are missing... and the drive pulley looked oversized and the belt pattern looked off. What ya'll think? Curmudgeon 28 #2 Posted May 2, 2008 Maybe, but something, not sure what, (besides the missing guards) doesn't look right to me.
Nick 13 #3 Posted May 2, 2008 If you zoom in they put a flat idler pulley in front of the belt tightner puller and one in front of the transmission pulley at the bottom. They might have just added a larger pulley on the transmission not a real SR-64 kit.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted May 2, 2008 That's exactly the way the SR-64 speed reduction is: I'd say that's what it is..... too bad the belt guard is missing.
Rollerman 290 #5 Posted May 2, 2008 Good eye's Jason...have that one on my watch list. It was on Craigslist for some time at around $500 or so. Somewhere under the ugly customization there is a nice 702 in there wanting to be saved.
Nick 13 #6 Posted May 2, 2008 I have seen wild Bill talk about the SR-64 for many years but I didnt remember anything about the extra flat idlers. Why does the larger rear pulley require the extra idlers?
Curmudgeon 28 #7 Posted May 2, 2008 Well by golly gee! I stand corrected, or rather, sit so. I was thinking a second belt/pulley arrangement, as always, I made it more complicated than it need to be. So it's just a larger rear pulley, guard, and a couple of flat idlers to maintain proper clearance for routing issues or whatever. Wheel Horse simplicity and functionality at it's best, as always. Cool beans.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #8 Posted May 2, 2008 I'm guessing (and I stress - guessing ) that the bottom idler is to hold the belt up so an even "deeper" guard wasn't needed. I'd say the top one is there to keep the tensioner idler geometry correct. (so it would still declutch properly)
Nick 13 #9 Posted May 2, 2008 Either way I learned something new today. Now if I remember that bit of information when looking at tractors Im all set to find one.
BPjunk 184 #10 Posted May 3, 2008 The 1964 Speed Reduction kit (SR-64) used a 7-1/2 inch in diameter drive pulley at the transmission and two flat groove pulleys along with a L O N G 76 inch drive belt. The flat groove pulleys are actully the same pulley used on the drive belt of the RJ-58, since the belt was so long it was figgured two idlers would be needed and also the diameter of the 7-1/2 inch pulley will need to have the belt contact a lareg area of the pulley groove so the belt will not slip because of the added torque multiplycation. There is two versions of the SR-64 but the only difference is the additional mounting holes that are in the drive belt guard for later model Wheel Horses. You can tell a SR-64 drive belt guard by the lower end as it is bent down ward to except the larger diameter pulley. Bill in Richmond, Va.
