squonk 43,714 #26 Posted January 11, 2011 I like the Gravely muffler with tailpipe and flapper idea. I wonder how it sounds ? Also I still am thinking of rear exhaust ideas as well My neighbor's Gravely with the 14 HP Kohler with that muffler sounds the same as my C-160 with the stock WH muffler

sorekiwi 761 #28 Posted January 12, 2011 I would agree that the Gravely muffler is about as loud as the factory B/C series muffler. Definately quieter than a pepperpot style muffler.
junkman 0 #29 Posted January 12, 2011 I have a 1976 c-160 auto with a transplanted Briggs and Stratton 16hp iron block motor. I have an AC-1 muffler on it made by Stanley muffler. Looks cool and sounds good. BUT when it rains (work tractor, no cover or shed) the cylinder fills up with water. And Briggs updraft carbs flood bad when dry, or at least all of mine do. It has a rain cap and welded elbow. Anybody had a leak issue with these before????

Kelly 1,033 #33 Posted January 13, 2011 I've got a C-160 with the TSC cub muffler, was a used muffler, it is fine for noise, not loud but not super quite, it has a flapper also, but still gets water in it, I put a can over the end, not pretty but better than a engine full of water. junkman 0 #34 Posted January 13, 2011 Thanks Kelly, I'll give that a try. but i would have thaught a rain cap would be designed to do just that- keep rain out! :banghead:

spark949 24 #36 Posted January 14, 2011 Did you pull the iron bushing or nipple out of the engine first? I might have to pull mine to install new muffler. My nipple only has threads toward the engine. I want to take that out and put a 2" nipple in, or a street 45. I'm going to put the round muffler on and it's threaded for 1" iron. Anyone had experience pulling these? I tried mine but I didn't want to force it when it started deforming the nipple. The other way I thought was to put a 1 1/2 to 1 1/2 muffler adapter on it and just clamp the 1" iron on both sides.
sorekiwi 761 #37 Posted January 14, 2011 Anyone had experience pulling these? I tried mine but I didn't want to force it when it started deforming the nipple. Do a search, there have been a ton of threads on here about this with lots of good advice. I pulled one out last week. I normally tap a 1" diameter piece of bar stock into the nipple to stop it crushing when you get the pipe wrench onto the nipple. If that doesnt work, then its a little careful work with a hacksaw and a chisel. The one I did last week came out first try.

But anyway, I found one or two that made reference about cutting them out. I just want to change the nipple on mine as it does not have thread. I'd like to leave the bushing in and just thread a new 2" nipple into it.
