MaineDad 87 #1 Posted December 18, 2010 So for a long time I have been working on a design for a weight box for my C-120. I wanted it to be easy to remove and still be able to attach a snow plow while it was on the tractor. I did some sketching using Google Sketch and brought the idea to my brother-in-law over Thanksgiving. My brother-in-law, a former welder at Bath Iron Works, in Bath, Maine, helped build many of the US Navy Destroyers who protect our country today. He came over my house a few days later and did some measuring. He made some very good recommendations and went home to finalize the design. Today he came over and we installed this! It is very easy to install. I used the bottom latch part of the rear axle bracket that attaches to the snow plow. I had to drill 4 holes in the seat support and that's it... Darren came over to look at the weight box and suggested that if I needed more weight I could use the cement blocks like this; I'll start with just the two blocks first with no tire chains. I did put the wheel weights back on, so hopefully that will be enough weight to give me the traction I need. Of course I will continue to update this thread as I start to use the tractor again. As you can see from the pictures, we are snowless so far this season My brother-in-law keep very detailed notes and records on cuts and measurements because I told him there may be some interest here on building some more for you guys. I could even haul some down to the Wheel Horse Show in June if the demand is there. So what do you guys think? In the spring I will prime and paint the weight box black. 64s 83 #3 Posted December 18, 2010 That is a super design, simple and compact. As for me, if I need more weight, I just eat some more Christmas cookies. :ychain:
dgoyette 12 #4 Posted December 18, 2010 It is a sweet and versatile set up. I am hoping to get one if he decides to make a few to sell.
jtmoyer 1 #5 Posted December 18, 2010 i have wheel weights and chains and still have to put the tiller on the back of the 520 to get traction with the 2 stage. with the single i just needed the chains.
gattonde 2 #6 Posted December 18, 2010 I think this set up is great. Please keep me in mind if you decide to build them and deliver to June Show. Great Job, Dan
mr.pipes 4 #7 Posted December 19, 2010 Looks good! I need to learn to weld. One thing I see that may be a weak link though. It looks as if the bolt on the back side of the axle has a lot of the weight on it. Maybe if a C shaped bracket was built as part of the box to slip over the axle from behind. Then one bolt on the front side of the axle to hold the box on. Maybe a triangle shaped piece between the back of axle and the horizontal piece above the axle. Hope that made sense. From the pics that area looks like a pivot point to me under the most strain.
JimD 3,347 #8 Posted December 19, 2010 I see one problem Micah, that weight box and your tractor scared the snow away. :ychain:

Crash 1 #11 Posted December 19, 2010 So did you ditch the rubber chains? I am still contemplating them.
sgtsampay 117 #12 Posted December 19, 2010 Hello. Do you think you could make one of those for my raider? Also, if you have any chains rubber or not, can you tell me how much your asking? Thats only if Crash doesn't take them first... LOL. Also, I wouldn't mind driving down to pick this stuff up. Lastly, how much would you charge for one of those weight boxs? Thanks for your help.. MaineDad 87 #13 Posted January 1, 2011 BTW - The weight box worked very well. I was able to do both snow removals during the blizzard with no tire chains and with no tire slippage!

C-160 Tractor 1 #19 Posted January 2, 2011 Looks really nice! I need to Fab me up one. I got me a little Harbor Freight 90 AMP mig welder a few years back for X-mas and it works pretty good. Replaced the wire with Lincoln wire and it works way better! Mr.Pipes should look into one of those for practice like me. But it is china junk but still gets the job done on projects like this. :ychain:
