Picked Up My First Wheel Horse Today

Hello All, my name is Jason. I am 26 and live on the west side of Minneapolis. Today I picked up my first Wheel Horse. Growing up, a friend of my grandfathers had a couple and I have wanted one ever since. I picked up this Raider 12 only 15 min from my house. It came with the attachments pictured along with a set of chains. It runs like a dream and looks like it may have been rebuilt at some point in time. I paid $500 for everything shown. Let me know what you think. Did I pay alittle too much? Any comments or info you can give me on it? Thanks in advance, Jason.

Thanks for the replies. I am happy with the WH. My wife is doing ok with it so far.

A couple questions, the fuel shutoff leaks, is that something I can still purchase new and where? Also, the deck says Toro WH so I am assuming it is quite a bit newer then the tractor?? One last one, I can't find any numbers on the engine, can someone point me in the right direction?

You did great. Tractor looks real clean and you got a much newer deck with Atach-a-matic conversion to boot. Look on ebay and see what belly grader blades are going for and you will know for sure you got a great deal!

Don't know about wet bikes, but I'm a sledder so that caught my eye. :whistle:

Jason, I know where you can get your money back for the whole setup. I'd even drive from Ky. to come get it. The engine should have an I.D. tag mounted along the front edge of the cooling shroud, just behind where your exhaust pipe exits on the left front. It may have been removed for a repaint. The shutoffs are pretty easy to find and may even still be had from a Toro dealer. They are always listed on Ebay, if you want to pay that much for one. It's too late to hope this Horse won't become an addiction, first time you let out the clutch it was all over. :D

The Wetbikes are a blast. Look them up. Lots of info out there. The sled though, is not mine. I work on sleds, motorcyles, ATV's, personal watercraft, etc on the side out of my garage and the Polaris need the front exchanger removed and welded.

What do graders pull on ebay? I can't find any current or ended auctions for them?

Thanks, I though the tag would be on the cooling shroud but it appears it was repainted so it is probably long gone. Is there any other way to tell what model it is. The reason I ask is because the motor seems really big for a 12hp. Now, I know it's been 10+ years since I have messed with small engines in lawn and garden equipment so maybe the 12 is just that big. I will have to hunt for a shut off. Thanks for the tip.

Let's just say that between the grader blade, the trailer, the dozer blade, and the rear wheel weights, you probably have the $500.

K series Kohlers are quite large. 10, 12, & 14 horsepower engines are vitually identical on the outside, and a 16hp is basically different only by the addition of 1 extra head bolt (10 total) and a 1 1/4" exhaust port. (instead of 1")

Wow, I'm surprised they pull that much $$$. Like I said, even if I paid too much, I'm happy with it. This evening the neighbors were out and I talked my one neighbor into chaining up his newer "Crapsman" to the Raider right in the middle of the culdesac. He knew it probably wasn't going to do much but I was really surprised how effortless I pulled him around. I even let him pull me back alittle ways and let the clutch out and immediately started pulling him backwards. I had the throttle about half out. The motor didn't even seem to work much. I am sure the fact the WH weighed several hundred pounds more had something to do with it to. I am trying to convert him to a WH. I think after this weekend and we work on his backyard with the blade on the WH, he will be hooked.

Let him see you pulling a full sized pick-up, or better yet, a Sear's repairman van, down the culdesac and he will be hooked. They were once advertised by pulling semis loaded with all the attachments in parades. :whistle:

These Wheel Horse's are strong little machines

Search out my video on this forum of me dragging a pick-up and trailer around the garden with a 312-8. Ok its not a Raider, but you get the idea :D

Jason, nice deal you got there. I agree with the others... only I'll say you stole that for $500. As TT said... your attachements alone are easily worth that. Wheel Horses are addictive, so get ready.... your wet bikes are gonna get jealous! I live down about 1 1/2 hours south of you, 20 miles east of Owatonna. Something to put on your calendar in the future is the LeSeuer Pioneer Power Show. There's a few of us WH guys who are going to have a display there. Check the thread on the North Central Wheel Horse Events Club (should be the last one on the main page) Show is Aug-22-24, and will be a great time. :WRS:
