New Horsie coming today!!!

Traded a 314-A, a Raider 12 and some cash for a Nice C-160 Auto from a friend. It's got a nice RD deck with a mulcher and I kept the blade off the Raider. It's got a cranking problem and I have to fix the brake pedal but so what. He said the hydro is "scarey fast" Maybe I can set some records in snow removal time!!Pics will come!! :DB):ychain::D:D :hide:

Here are some pics. I need to replace the cable from the solenoid to the starter, the left spindle which I have,rig up a user friendly oil drain and fix the brake pedal. I've only driven it from the trailer to the garage.The hydro is super touchy. I can move the lever just a little to get it to start moving move it just a little more and it takes off like a rocket! :ychain::D

The brake pedal problem is just a broken or missing/unhooked return

spring under the shift plate, didn't know if you knew that or not

That's what I was thinking. Had the same thing on a GT-14 I had.

For now a fix up for daily workin. I do plan on replacing the missing hood decal and put some anti skids on the floorboards. The biggest thing will be getting that hydro so it's not so dangerous to drive! :ychain:

My friend told me this thing will fly. Just moving it into the shop you had to be very careful with the Hydro lever. You would be creeping along and just move it a little and all of a sudden you will going faster than you would like in a garage! I'll have a chance to really try it out today to see how fast it really is.

Sounds like something is broken or really loose in the trans linkage

or a pin is sheared off on the input shaft to the hydo unit

letting the speed adjustment inside the hydo unit free turn a small amount

just my 2 cents

BTW great tractor I would like to pick one up someday

Ok I had a chance to look at the trans linkage and drive it. I had the cover off at the linkage to replace the spring for the brake plate. The linkage itself looks fine. I put the spring on and when I push the pedal it kicks the lever to what looks like the neutral position. When running the hydro it is not however.

The top forward speed does not seem any faster than normal. When moving the lever forward the tractor at times will start out slow and then as you ease it more it will take off full speed. When you pull it back to stop it it sometime will stop and at other times it will go right to reverse. Some times after stopping it in reverse it will not go forward until you push the lever way forward and then it will take off fast. It's not consistent. Any body have a detailed description on how the linkage is supposed to be adjusted? :ychain:

A lot of times when a Sundstrand gets jumpy and unpredictable, there's a broken spring or sticking acceleration or relief valve.

Thanks TT!!! Some thing is definitely weird when 1 time it will go forward with little movement of the lever and another time it won't move at all until the lever is way forward. Also there is a small amount of "neutral area" when it's jumpy. Do you think this might be a spring or valve problem?

It's not easy to diagnose a problem like this over the internet, but I wouldn't rule it out. :ychain:

You can quickly find out by pulling the valves though.

Took out the plug on the front of the trans and pulled the front valve and spring out. Did not take the back plug out as the tractor axle prevented it. Spring wasn't broken. Put it back together and it seemed better but forward to reverse is still touchy with not much or a "neutral area" I guess I'll try the neutral adjustment next.

I think I've discovered the problem. I de-gunked the cam linkage before going to work today and found the set screw that holds the linkage arm on the transmission shaft is missing, The only thing holding them together was grease and dirt. I won't have time tonight to fix it so I'll keep you posted Mike
