Oil Ring Differences

Recommended Posts

mattd860

the oil ring from a ring kit I just bought is different than the ring that came off the old piston on my K301. Please check out the picture. Is it ok to use the new one?

Old ring is on the left, new ring is on the right...

No problem there. I ran into the same thing, and asked the same question when I rebuilt my K301 a couple months back. They are just different styles that do the same thing. Just make sure to use it with two oil rings that came with it. Don't mix it up with ones from another ring kit.

I was hoping no one would bring that up. :ychain: But if someone else can avoid having to tear down a freshly assembled engine, then let it be heard!! :D
