CTPATRIOT 12 #1 Posted December 7, 2010 I pulled the sediment bowl off and drained the old stink gas out.The screws for the straps turn ok,but it doesn't look like the tank has enough room to come out.Just curious what it takes to remove it?

WHC-125 4 #9 Posted December 7, 2010 I never knew gas tanks were that hard to take out. If you need a hand I will be more than happy to come help you if I can take the time out of my busy schedule but make sure you have the right tools to do the job and a enclosed garage. :ychain:
CasualObserver 3,411 #10 Posted December 7, 2010 gas tanks normally dont take very much to come out Yes..."normally" most gas tanks are easy... but not this one. The 953/1054 models were the uni-body of Wheel Horses. the Fuel tank is under the seat pan, which is welded to the frame and fenders... the only way to get to it is like Mike said earlier, the trans has to be removed and you go at it from the bottom. So before you guys continue to raz what you think is an easy process, try learning about the tractors.
WHC-125 4 #11 Posted December 7, 2010 To remove the tank really isnt that big of a job. As well as removing the transmission. I was simly telling him if he needed help that I would help. I have been working on these tractors for over 10 years and you could ask any of the member from the new england area that know me to vouch for it.
CasualObserver 3,411 #12 Posted December 7, 2010 For some here yes, removing the tank/trans is easy. Please remember we have all walks of life and levels of experience. That's all. And it's admirable to offer to help, members helping members... can't get better than that.

CTPATRIOT 12 #14 Posted December 7, 2010 Chris, thanks for the offer!I have no problem doing most things on these tractors.I just wanted to be 100% sure that's what it took.I'd hate to pull the trans. then have somebody tell me a "trick" how the tank pop's right out .I don't believe i have to remove it,i think i can get it clean enough in the frame. If not just support the frame, put a floor jack under the transmission, remove the lift cylinder pin and move it out of the way, remove the four transmission bolts and lower it down slow. at about two inches the tank will clear. I've done it on my 1054 three times. My biggest problem is I have duals on the back and takin them off and putting them back on takes the longest.
