mbarb54 8 #1 Posted December 6, 2010 This past summer I bought a 42" single stage snow thrower attachment for my 310-8. This week I hooked it up for the first time. The main thing I noticed is that it takes two hands and full strength on the lift lever to lift it to the raised position. I realize this is a heavy attachment, but I don't think it should be that hard to lift. Is this typical? Lifting my plow blade attachment was much easier. One thing I noticed is the previous owner put a slight bend in the lift tube that runs from the base of the show thrower attachment to the flag (lift arm). I'm wondering if the bend might affect the lift by making it harder. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated. I'll soon have lots of snow to deal with here in Wisconsin. I can also post pictures of the lift rod if that would help. Also, does anyone use chains on their front tires? My front end was sliding a lot. I currently have chains and weights on the rear only. Thanks, Michael
MaineDad 87 #2 Posted December 6, 2010 Michael, It should be much easier. Do you have the lift flag attached to the top hole? Also do you have the lift assist spring hooked up too? Let us know that first...
Gerry w 2 #3 Posted December 6, 2010 What hole do you have the flag set into on your lift lever?? And folks here have used "roll" chain on their front tires with some good results.
Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted December 7, 2010 Make sure like has been said you have the flag pined in the right hole, adding a lift assist spring helps, and some blower lift tubes are bent some, I have both style tubes.

And on the chain Subject it's a MOTORCYCLE chain mounted in the center of each front tires keeps the front from sliding. sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted December 7, 2010 I agree with the others, first make sure the flag is in the right hole. If it's in the wrong hole its almost impossible to lift (dont ask how I know ). When its in the right hole its not too bad, but an hour or so of blowing and you will start to feel it. The lift assist spring helps a ton, and makes it pretty easy. mbarb54 8 #7 Posted December 7, 2010 :ychain: Thanks for all your comments. It appears that I did install the flag into the lower hole. I went out tonight and moved it up to the top hole and it made lifting MUCH easier. I'm not sure what you all mean about the lift assist spring. The snowthrower I bought came with the factory instruction book and I see no reference to an assist spring nor did it come with one. Is this some type of add on accessory? I also like the motorcycle chain idea. The chains I have won't grip on my front tires because the tread is too worn, so I haven't used them. Michael

You can put a spring between the lift flag and the frame to take some of the weight off the lift lever. I dont know what model your blower is, but I'm pretty sure my manual talks about it. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...t+assist+spring http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...t+assist+spring
wallfish 18,087 #9 Posted December 7, 2010 Your flag may not have the spring tab on it. If not you can have one welded on.
mbarb54 8 #10 Posted December 7, 2010 Thanks for the info on the lift assist spring. My flag does not have the spring tab on it. I'll have to lift without the assist for now.
