pumper.atv 26 #1 Posted December 5, 2010 Has anyone ever put a motor inline with the frame, i have an idea but it would work better inline instead of across :D
JimD 3,347 #2 Posted December 5, 2010 I'm not following what you mean. Can you elaborate a little? :ychain:
pumper.atv 26 #3 Posted December 5, 2010 on the whs the crank goes out the side, but i want it to go back instead I am thinking of using a diesel we have around. I might just use it the way they normally are though i just measured it
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #4 Posted December 5, 2010 What he means is this: On a Wheel Horse, the horizontal engine has the crank running perpendicular to the frame. He wants to have the engine turn 90 degrees to run parallel with the frame like the old IH Cub Cadets and some of the John Deeres have. You might take a look at a Cub Cadet 1100 or 482 as they have the horizontal engine running north and south like you're intending and they used a Peerless transmission that runs off a drive shaft from the engine to a right angle gear box, then a belt off of that to the pulley on the transmission. defed 0 #5 Posted December 5, 2010 i think the D's were the only WH's that used that configuration.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #6 Posted December 5, 2010 What about a 520xi, 522xi, etc. Toro/WH? The 523Dxi had the 3 cylinder diesel, so it's definitely "do-able".

Nick 13 #9 Posted December 6, 2010 All of the inline tractors built by Wheel horse were hydro drive. Might need a right angle gearbox or try running a belt system to do an inline WH gear drive.

SALTYWRIGHT 861 #11 Posted December 6, 2010 I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, BUT I PUT A DIESEL IN MY 417-8 AND PUT IT IN THE SAME AS THE K-17 WAS. I DID NOT HAVE TO CUT THE HOOD. IT HAS WORKED OUT VERY GOOD THIS WAY. RUSS
