HorseFixer 2,013 #1 Posted December 5, 2010 Since I am running heat in the Cab of my snow machine it pulls the fresh air in over the fly wheel and on that side of the tractor and guess what? The exhaust outlet is there! It is not bad by any means but now and then I get a good whiff and it is something That I have been meaning to fix. I think the stacks you guys put on yer tractors look pretty sharp! And I like the flapper on top as it looks pretty cool also. I also am concerned with support of this stack and durability and would like any ideas on where to get the parts and any pictures you have that you think would be neat and work well in this application. I also think I am in need of a new Muff cause it sounds kinda loud here are some criteria and questions I would like it to meet. And below are some pics of my stock setup. 1) Away From Flywheel Intake! 2) Supported well or do not want it to crack. 3) Quality materials need to last a long time. 4) New Muffler provide LOW TONE 5) Flapper on top of exhaust. 6) Should exhaust size be increased? If so to what size and where? I appreciate your advice! I know we have some gear heads out there where the first priority of a modification is the exhaust! Sparky-(Admin) 23,173 #2 Posted December 5, 2010 I know you said you wanted a stack Duke, but if muffler fumes and noise are an issue and its a snow-blower only tractor(no mower deck) I wonder if it could be piped under the tractor and out the back. Just imagine a nice chrome tip stickin out the back. Your motor looks to be a solid mount and not a cradle mount so it should work as your motor wont flex as much as the cradle setups. And you might just be the first to do it ! Mike............
Shuboxlover 481 #3 Posted December 5, 2010 I got my stack, muffler, flap and all the pipe fittings at my local farm store. I think the muffler is from a Case. Did it all for about $
Gene_S 93 #4 Posted December 5, 2010 Duke I got stacks on three tractors. The stack on my 416 is the farmall stack that TSC sells. The only thing I wish I would of done is use stainless fittings. With what I used the weight of it does not effect the engine threads at all and has been on the tractor for over five years. Im not at home right now so if you would like pictures I can get you some tonight. :ychain:
squonk 43,845 #5 Posted December 5, 2010 No pics yet but my next stack will be a long enough nipple of the engine, to a right angle muffler that Gravely uses so it's quiet. Straight up from there with regular exhaust pipe from a muffler shop high enough to get the fumes out of my face. Top it off with a rain cap from TSC to go "tink tink tink!!" HorseFixer 2,013 #6 Posted December 9, 2010 Shoebox well here is what I did the old muffler indeed was shot and coming apart inside! No wonder it sounded like crap and had a rattle! I went to Rural King and PU a Farmall muffler and a stack topper. I then needed a elbow and they and TSC don't sell many fittings so I used a Electrical 1 1/4 long radius Galv electrical elbow with was the same wall thickness as the exhaust. I then joined the two with an adapter 1 1/4 X 11/2 I picked up at advance auto. I sawed the end of the exhaust that attached to the tractor wire wheeled it and fitted everything together. I then took it over to MR. TIG and welded everything together. This setup only has one muffler clamp and thats what attach
Shuboxlover 481 #7 Posted December 9, 2010 Looks great Just wish I had the same blower you did :D
squonk 43,845 #8 Posted December 9, 2010 Looks like a lot of weight hanging out there. I like the look of the Farmall Muffler though. I think I'm going to use the Gravely muffler and just some exhaust pipe going up up the flapper to keep the overhaul weight down. I think someone here had a pic of one on a Horse at one time. Plus my neighbor has a Gravely and it's quiet and compact. That's where I got the idea from. Here's a pic of one on a rear engine Gravely. It's not a great pic but you can see it behind the rear tire. http://www.mytractorforum.com/attachment.p...30&d=1290465630
Coadster32 793 #9 Posted December 9, 2010 Looks good. I like the high stack and the flapper. Hey Mike, coming out the back would be pretty cool also. Perhaps someone's rat project.
Kelly 1,033 #10 Posted December 9, 2010 looks good Bob, but most of the time people use cast fittings from the engine out, to help support the weight, you might want to keep a eye on that, especially with the shaking blower
Tim 97 #11 Posted December 10, 2010 It looks like you have a heating system for the cab is it home made? does someone on this sit fabricate the metal? seems like it would work well maybe too well
Confused99 2 #12 Posted December 11, 2010 Looks good but I agree about the weight hanging and vibrating. Might help to fab up a support for it. I would also turn the flapper 180 degrees to help blow the exhaust away from the cab/you. Jason
