Snow plow question

Howdy everyone,

When I was finally able to buy that 1970 Raider 10 that had been sitting at the repair shop for all those years it had a frame attached for a snow plow but it was missing the blade assembly. While Ive been working on the tractor itself, I decided to find and attach a blade to the frame. A while back I picked up a couple of really cool implements built for a garden tractor from my wifes Aunt. I dont know what brand they are but I am just supper happy to have them. One is a blade that is 42" wide. I dont know if it was for a snow application or dirt because it had no provision to have springs attached. Well I have been hard at work fabricating the nescessary parts to attach it to the frame that came with the Raider. All I have left to do is make 2 small brackets to attach it to the pivot assembly and weld them to the blade. Now for my question... the wear edge is gone and I have been thinking of buying a piece of flat stock and cutting it to length and using it, but I dont know if this wear edge is supposed to be made with regular steel or something substancially harder and more wear resistant. What should I use and also how thick should it be, 1/4"?

The other impliment that I got with the blade looks kind of like a Gannon Box. Its made to be used with a 3 pt but somehow I want to figure out how to mount it to the Raider or one of my 702's utilizing the cable lift. Thats my next project,one battle at a time

To be honest, untill we can move the only thing it might possibly get used for is moving some loose dirt or gravel.Chances are it will sit unused untill we move but at least Ill have it when I need it, and it gives me something to tinker with

John yes pics would be nice! On the edge or knife of the blade I would use 1/4 steel would be fine. Make it removable for replacement. Yeah if it were heat treated it would probably last a little longer but you wont be plowing yer driveway as we do up here but rather moving sand, cactus, snakes, and armerdillos! and all that stuff is softer! Make an extra if your concerned about it, spares are always good. Good luck with yer project!

The wear edge is just that and any piece of metal will work, you just might have to replace it more often. I went to our local fab shop and had them use there iron worker to punch the square hole in it.
