Shuboxlover 481 #1 Posted December 3, 2010 Shed's not done yet (the outside is) but at least I have a place to keep my snow team out of the elements.
dgoyette 12 #2 Posted December 3, 2010 Dude...those are some nice horses... great team. You should be all set for anything nature throws at you. Nice photos. Looks like you are going to have a very nice space for them too!
wallfish 18,154 #3 Posted December 3, 2010 Snow removal shouldn't be a problem for you, nice team. One thing I noticed is on the single stage blower with the cab. It looks like you need to extend the handle or add an electric motor so you can turn it from inside the cab.
Coadster32 793 #4 Posted December 3, 2010 Nice herd of snow horses! Good eye John.
Shuboxlover 481 #5 Posted December 3, 2010 It looks like you need to extend the handle How have some of you guy fixed this issue? Maybe an electric motor will be in the future, but not right away.
Redbirdman 7 #6 Posted December 3, 2010 How have some of you guy fixed this issue If I remember correctly there was an adapter that went around the slit in the canopy where your hand reached through. I think it was a double metal square ring that riveted together and squeezed the fabric of the cab between the rings. Attached to that metal ring was an oval of fabric with a zipper where the chute handle came into the 'bubble'. The top of the bubble was stiffer material... I'll look for an old timer photo. It may have been an aftermarket thing or maybe homemade but it worked. I remember stuffing rags in there to keep the zipper from leaking cold air in. wallfish 18,154 #7 Posted December 3, 2010 To extend the handle, you would have to cut it and couple or weld in a length of round bar. Or completely build a longer one. Extending the length will also add to the amount it travels up and down which could be an issue inside the cab. I would go with the electric motor and keep the original handle so it can go back on if necessary. A power window motor from a junk yard would probably be the cheapest. You can find window motors on ebay, some are fairly cheap. Surplus center has a gear motor that would work for $59 and has a nice 7/16 x 3 inch shaft that would make it easy to fab something on. Horse Fanatic 51 #14 Posted December 4, 2010 Shed? That thing looks like a house. Really, around here shed's like that are called garages or barns!
Shuboxlover 481 #15 Posted December 4, 2010 That's no barn ..... Barns have horses (of the equine type) and chickens.... machine sheds have combines, trucks, semis, planters, and tractors (of the bigger type), and garages have cars, suv's and pickups....there fore, it HAVE to be building a shed. It's funny though, when I talk to people at my work (which 99% of them are from the city and never lived anywhere but) and tell them I'm building a shed, they think like a 10' x 12'....you know, something they store their push mower in, along with their garden weasel!!!! A building like this in the country is called a shed...or shop..... actually, I really don't care what you call it, I JUST WISH IT WAS DONE!!!!!!!!!!!! chesbaycruiser 83 #16 Posted December 4, 2010 My friend just built a similar structure here in VA. He started off calling it a shed, but in my mind, a shed is usually what you described...a little building for rakes and a push mower. It could be called a garage, since it has a roll-up car door and concrete slab and could certainly accommodate a car. Can't be a barn 'cause it's not red. We kicked around a few ideas, (my 12 year old son came up with Wheel Horse Emporium) and finally settled on his wife's suggestion...the Stable, as in Stable! Whatever you call it, very nice tractors living in very nice digs! CB
AMC RULES 37,196 #17 Posted December 11, 2010 I said house because it's to that level that the inside of this structure pictured is finished to. Rooms, doors, and looks to be awaiting insulation. What's next, plumbing, heat? Hence, the housing of Wheel Horses. Any progress?
whfan74 2,072 #18 Posted December 12, 2010 That is one nice line up and a great looking shop/barn/stable, etc.... Looking forward to seeing it all done as I am sure you are as well. Fantastic job so far! :ychain:
bitten 134 #19 Posted December 12, 2010 We have a 60x100 and everyone calls it a shed but I call it a shop. I think of a shed as something to store things in and a shop is were you do your work at. Seeing as I'm the only one that works in it and everyone else stores there crap in it you can see the different names for it.
