Kelly 1,033 #26 Posted December 2, 2010 I am so glad I can buy and sell tractors as many as I want with out my wife caring, she even finds them for me, helps me haul them, goes on road trips, heck for the past 3 weeks I had one room in the house full of boxes of tractor parts, she did say they needed to be gone this week so we can get the christmas tree in the house. I love my wife.
grnlark 489 #27 Posted December 2, 2010 My wife doesn't care what I buy or pack in the garage as long as it's with my own "tractor stash" of cash and doesn't take time away from the family. But if I exceed more than 1 tractor run a week I start pushing my luck. I can usually see the slow trickle of smoke beginning to eminate from her ears
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,534 #28 Posted December 2, 2010 The 48 hours thing is good. My wife used a similar technique on me a while back when she had a new pair of shoes or handbag (not sure) and I asked her if that was new and she said "no I have had it for a long time" While she had it for a long time it was new it was just the first time she used it ! catman81056 3 #29 Posted December 2, 2010 Greg went through a major fiasco with axles for his tractor. I'm sure he knows 1 1/8" were the largest diameter axles in a Wheel horse. Just a mental slip or a typo most likely. Thats what I was thinking, but really didn't know for sure if there were particular models with bigger,:)
dgjks6 8 #30 Posted December 2, 2010 You guys are great and I appreciate all the support. Yes I knew 1 1/8, but brain was asleep. Here is the plan... She is leaving for chicago on Friday with the 5 girls. Me and the boy are having a male bonding weekend - which she says we should do. When she asks what we are going to do this weekend - I am going to say "tractor stuff" - which is not a lie. And then a new tractor will appear in the garage. SkyhawkTL 19 #33 Posted December 4, 2010 Great Replys - for when my day comes. Plus you can tell men have better friends. When a guys wife doesn't come home at night, he call 5 of her friends and they all say they havn't seen her. When the guy doesn't come home at night, she calls 5 of his friends and they all say he spent the night - 3 of them say he is still there asleep. I like the 48 hr rule.
HorseFixer 2,013 #34 Posted December 4, 2010 This is the time to "STAND YER GROUND" You tell her That there will be no more hunkering down when you buy a tractor! That if she doesnt like it, "Its tuff T*tty says the Kitty!" And I want you to know I'm right behind you on this all the way!!! When she kicks you out, I will console you! When you get hit in the head with a rollin pin I will be there telling You "How I feel yer pain!" And if she turn twords me I will holler ~Duke
HorseFixer 2,013 #35 Posted December 4, 2010 We should ask the mods for a new section. Excuses, Techniques and Methods John, Karl would have to double his Server Space!
dgjks6 8 #36 Posted December 4, 2010 Thanks for all your support. Do you think women have conversations like this with their friends? Anyway, got up at 3:45 this AM, took 2 daughters to the airport, got home at 6AM. Left at 8AM and went and got it. Home at noon. Took a nap. I called my neighbor (who is recently divorced) and explained the situation to him. It is now in his garage until my son and I can clean some space in mine before my wife gets home. I will get some pictures today.
Operator 7 #37 Posted December 4, 2010 Just remember the old addage, "It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission" Strange how the majority of us have the same problem, I learned just to not let the Horses "herd up" in one spot. Bad bad time that was! Randy

Forest Road 594 #40 Posted December 5, 2010 If I had the space there would be several.Since getting into this year I've bought and sold 3. I currently own 2. I've brought each one home and dealt w/ the consequences. I haven't lied, nor have I told her what I'm up to. Oh did I mention that I live next to my in laws. When all else fails that's my fall back excuse. BTW: Any 16 horse kohler is on my watch list. Looks like a GREAT CATCH!!!!
Horse'n Around 22 #41 Posted December 5, 2010 Do you think women have conversations like this with their friends? Good grief... you dont even want to hear about the conversations that some women have ...not even snippets My wife has told me about some of the talks that go on among her female coworkers. I couldnt believe my ears and women say men are perverts A couple of times they have even tried (unsuccessfully) to include me in some of their discussions and I run for my life! Im pretty sure Im scarred for life... scarred not scared although come to think of it....that would also fit pretty good when I think back on a couple she told me about Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I repeat, you dont want to know about some of their conversations John
dgjks6 8 #42 Posted December 5, 2010 So got the tractor from my neighbors and left it in the driveway - planning to clean the garage in the AM and find a place for it. Went to dinner with my son and when we got home - it had snowed. Pulled in the garage and took first pick. More in the AM. It looks like it was outside for a while - lots of surface rust, seat is toast, tires are gone. But got what I have been looking for, the single cyliner kohler, the 1 1/8 trans and the 42 inch rear discharge deck. Going to check fluids, get a battery, and try to start tomorrow. Now the question is whether I transplant the engine and transmission to the blackhood - or get this one going and finish the c-85 with the other trans I have and rebuild the k181. I can justify having 2 wheel horses - I use the 312 for most everything, and I could always use a spare, but 3?
JimD 3,347 #43 Posted December 5, 2010 It looks pretty solid to me. Can't wait to see more pics. You and your son should have fun bringing it back to life. :ychain:

dgjks6 8 #45 Posted December 5, 2010 Thanks Rick. Anyway, the story continues. Worked all night, got home at 10am ready to clean the garage and get ready for the snow. Spent 45 minutes bonding with my son cleaning the garage, putting the 23's with weight and chains on the 312 and putting on the plow. Then decided to unload the 416. And my luck continues. Deck gets stuck on the ramp to offload the tractor. Try to remove the deck, but can't beacues tractor is in the truck. Try to lift up on the deck and get it over the place where it is stuck on the ramp. Right side went perfectly. Left side.. not so much These pics were taken after I got the deck off. On the plus side, it really is easy to get the deck off when the tractor is on its side. So is there any damage I could have done by it spliing over (beside the obvious) - like inernal motor damage or something like that or I can I still just try to gas it up and go (after checking the fluids). JimD 3,347 #46 Posted December 5, 2010 Wow Greg, I'm really sorry to see that this happened. I'm just glad no one was hurt. The only thing I know to do is to get it upright and try it. Make sure the oil is topped off, and be ready to shut it down quickly if you hear anything that doesn't sound normal. Let us know how badly damaged it is. Again, really sorry this happened. :ychain:
WH Raider10 17 #47 Posted December 5, 2010 It almost made me cry! No,but that would be no fun to see that happening. You got lucky it isn't damaged!
dgjks6 8 #48 Posted December 5, 2010 So I righted the tractor: believe it or not - no dents from the accident. Wheels and sheet metal are straight. Went to Sears and got a battery. Came home and lifted the seat and found this: No dipstick. Luckily I have a few extras - put one in and check the fluid: Looks perfect - Ok so maybe not perfect but luckily I now can rebuild and 8 speed trans with my eyes closed (and a lot of swearing and help from here) Then I check the oil - actually looked good. So I connect the battery and put in gas. The tank was empty - thank god - it was stored that way. Crossed my fingers and said a few prayers and VROOM - started right up. few backfires and runs a little rough -but it runs strong. And now the best part: Charging system works! Now for the bad part. Wife arrives in 3 hours and I have to hide the tractor in this: I did tell her that I went and picked up some tractor parts yesterday. I think I forgot to tell her they were connected to an entire tractor. Baby steps. Later - gotta clean the garage. Greg
dgjks6 8 #49 Posted December 5, 2010 After reviewing the post I came up with a game. It's called wheres wheelhorse. In the last picture the is a c85. Can anyone find it. Or - how many wheel horse parts can you find in the picture?
Operator 7 #50 Posted December 5, 2010 What C-85? I was going to say it wouldn't be hard to hide a tractor in your garage. That tranny oil looks like it has moisture in it though, just change it out before it freezes. Randy PS I dumped a tractor off a trailer the same way, deck caught. And I was on it! :ychain:
