C-160 Without Hydro Lift With 06-44SC01 SnowBlower

Recommended Posts

HorseFixer

Have a question? I know a guy who has a C-160 without Hydraulic Lift and he has found a -6-44SC01 Snow Blower just like mine and wants to install it on his C-160 :) Yikes!! All I know is mine is Damn Heavy and I am not familar with lift springs available to counter balance this rascal to be able to lift this thing with a lift lever? I just dont have an answer and know what to tell him as I have never played with manual lifting of these blowers, what do you guys think? :wh:

And if not can he use an Electric Lift Cylinder and if so what part # of the kit? :) or does he need hydraulics? Any help opinions would be great!

Hi it's me thanks again, I had a busy night and now its to late to do any "home work" on this subject for me. I gotta hit the sack for an early day tomorrow. Just when I think I have a good idea turns out to be.... well not one haha.

I am not sure what to do now. If there is some simple and not to expensive way to make some kind of lift I will do it. If not maybe I should stop rethink and go back to the drawing board. I have been told the single stage blower will work for my needs, but I just love the coolness factor of the dual stage. But at what cost! Man I wish my 8 speed was an auto hydro now. Here I am the whole time thinking my 8 speed is the chit and better than an auto. Lol

Not in this case.

Well the guy selling the cab and blower also has it as a pkg with a h520 auto I believe for only a few hundred more than the cab and blower. I think 300 extra for his tractor. But it has engine piston prpoblems so he says.

Good part about my c160 from the begining was that it was free from my wifes mothers husband. I had to buy a few parts to get the deck in order and also a few tweeks to get the motor up to snuff. But its been great!

I'm in the market for a quiter muffler; lawn sweeper (found one today and waiting for response from seller), blower and cab.

Wanted 2 stage but like I mentioned before not sure now about cost. A few people have offered me single stage for aroun d 125. That's way less doe and I think I can use manual lift. Not best but maybe ,y only option for my 1977 c-160 8 speed.

Thanks to Duke for being a great guy and posting the question for me.

Still interested in options and like I said back to drawing board.

Brian

Too heavy. He may be able to do something like add an electric winch to raise it up. Those blowers are monsters that take 2 men and a small child to lift

I have a 416-8 here with an electric spun hydraulic motor.

It works great, but is a little slow like a Wheel Horse electric lift.

A lot of RV companies use these kinds of pumps for the slideouts or leveling jacks.

Also if your up near Duke you might try some of the marina's up on the lake.

Most of the bigger lake boats have a electric over hydraulic trim motor.

These would work pretty good like mine at running a factory or other lift cylinder up & down to lift the 2 stage.

It just be a matter of finding a place to put one on your C series.

Not a problem Brian, glad to assist! I didnt think you would be able to lift by hand cause it is very heavy but was not sure as I never been there and done that! This is a perfect example when many heads are better than one! :) Stevebo & Stephen have pretty good ideas and may be worth considering. How much is the package for Blower & Cab? If it is reasonable enough it may be worth storing until a Hydro pops up :wh: I wouldnt give up on the Idea... Those blowers and Cabs are not the easyest to find in great shape! And not only that, a Cab & Blower will spoil ya! I used a walk behind blower for 37 years from when I was a kid (used an Ole Monkey Wards) Then Toro's to the year before last! I finally got tired of EATING SNOW, freezing, and wrenching my back around. I figure it was time to enjoy the fruits of my labor!

I guess whoever came up with saying when you get older you to work smarter instead of harder came up with a good one! :)

I can tell you that a single stage blower with that 16 horse will throw snow 30 - 50 ft. $125 for a complete blower is a good price too. You will still want a lift assist spring to help lift it because it will also be heavy.

I just recently hooked up my 2 stage. It does hook up to the tractor much different from the singles and the lift mechanism appears to use more leverage. I wonder if using 2 assist springs at the rocker shaft and a heavier spring up front might allow you to use a manual lift.

You are welcome to come over and take a look at the blowers. I don't have the single stage hooked up to a tractor but you'll get a better idea of what you're dealing with. We can even hook up the 2 stage to your tractor and test it out. I don't have a manual tractor to use at the moment. 01524

I didn't check that link but a member - Confussed99 put a two stage on a Raider 12 and he says he can lift it. But how many times will you need to do it?

I'd check on that "package deal with the 520H.

Thanks!

The guy with the hydro h520 is pushing me for an answer now cause he has the cab sold almost and someone wants trhe deck but he wanted to give as a package. I do not feel comfortable with my skills buying a tractor with a problem with #2 piston. Just to vage, so I will let that deal go. Also in the effort of saving cash I decided the single stage is ok for me as well. My drive is not huge.

So yes! Man please hold that single stage for me. I got the cash and can pick up. Your so close!

Your saying you have one for sale correct? I also would be kinda cool to see if my tractor could handle the 2 stage so bringing my tractor over is an option.

Thanks again. All.

If all goes well and it should I just need to find me a snow cab to modify and add some lights to. Lol

Thanks again.

Please let me know

I have one but not for sale at this time. You should get one that was already offered for sale to you for $125. They do pop up locally on CL this time of year too.

Only slightly off the subject based on the inputs recieved but adding assist springs brings to mind the one thing I hate about my single-stage blower on my C-175. I damn near kill myself each year putting that lift assist spring on let alone lining up the blower on the front mount attach-a-matic.

IMHO.....adding another spring would reduce me to using a walk-behind or just plowing everything. (Or waiting for the spring thaw to reveal my driveway again).

You should get a longer eye bolt for mounting the spring. Set it so you can easily put the spring on then tighten up the eye bolt to the desired tension.

I just set a friend up with a spring from an old plow and welded on a tab to the flag. Then connected it up with an eye bolt through the hole in the tab. He can now put enough tension on it to stop the blower from slamming on the ground if you just let go of the lift handle.

This is the lift system I made to lift my snow blade. I used a hanging scale from the garage rafters and the front of the blade suspended was 105 lbs. It feels like 30 lbs when I lever it up.

I used the same system when I mounted a snow blower and believe me, it doesn't feel heavy at all.

That is a nice setup and a great idea! Leverage is the key. That's basically the way the 2 stage blowers are setup but it uses the front Tach A Matic and is mounted into the mid one.

Can we get some dimensions on that great idea, catman! :ychain: It might make it easier for someone as simple as myself. That and I will admit to being a little lazy. Thinking sometimes makes my brain hurt. :D

Thanks!

It is possible. :ychain:

thanks to all that helped me.!

I was able to lift it with ease, I think I maybe missing a spring that goes on the lift pole as well.

I am looking into that,

I know this thing is heavy but I could not believe how easy it lifted.

I had to drag it around myself and attach it myself. It was pretty easy.!

I don't want to high jack the thread, but I can say the SS blade its seld started out as a small table/shelf. This is a short piece.
