Question about Roll Pins

Recommended Posts

Redbirdman

Although my 701 steers beautiful and is just as free as a hippy I noticed today, while sitting back drinking a beer and resting my foot on the front tire (It never snows here so I don't have to mess with all that sno plow cr*p) the spindle had mucho back and forth play (toe in and out) off the front axel. It looks like a 'roll pin' is the only thing that could cause that! Everything else is solid, up and down and sideways.

Does that sound right?.........and if it is the bore as well as the roll pin itself what do you other (perfectionest's) do? Bore out the hole (or 'drill out') for the next size pin?

Weld up and redrill?........or just say F' it! (after all, I ain't gonna fly it)

I'm dealing with the same thing, I got lucky and picked up a set of very nice spindles to swap, but I was going to drill to the next size, I have tractors her that have been welded, bolted, and drilled crosswise and pined, take your pick, I would do like I said drill and pin the next size.

Redbird, I'd listen to Kelly and drill the spindles and steering arms to the next size!

I've seen some natural aboritions done on these parts and it ain't pretty!

Try to do it right if you can! It can't fly it's a horse (no feathers) :)

But would you go up in a crate like that?

 HORSEFEATHERS!

I had one that had a lot of play and the pin kept working it's way out.

When I finally examined it the pin was in 3 pieces.

So, if you are lucky, you just may need to replace the pins!

I agree that drilling out and going up a size makes sense. A clean repair that will be stronger than the original reducing the chances you'll need to mess with it again.

keep us posted.
