Redbirdman 7 #1 Posted November 27, 2010 I know I said I'm not looking for a restoration for my 701...But now I'm beginning to think doing the panel over would be a priority. Sooooooo, First off: I have seen a few with home-made replacement panels (Like mine)! and I wonder what happened to the originals? Do they crack or vibrate off or just dissolve? Second: Any tricks on removing the rusty or 'jammed' throttle and choke ring nuts? I suspect dissimiliar metals (or stray voltage) caused them to weld themselves on. Third: any sources for replacement panels other than parts machines? OK, I showed you mine, now show me yours! Ed :) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

You might have the best luck getting yours apart if you chip/chisel/whittle the wood out from between the bezel and the nut, and then spray the bejesus out of them with a good penetrant. Heat really isn't an option, so if they don't break free after soaking, you might have to use the miniature cut-off wheels on a Dremel to split the nut. puddlejumper 67 #4 Posted November 27, 2010 Redbird, I Intend to do a complete restore on mine sometime in the future,so I amgoing to purchase a repro for mine. My original is fully functional with just a piece broke out of the top lip. Maybe the size of your thumbnail I will donate it to the old gal if she wants it. I have ordered a new 701 dash from him along with many other products shown and the materials are much thicker and better Quality than the originals.
