daemon2525 5 #3 Posted November 24, 2010 If you have the old one, you can get new pads installed by companies that reline truck brakes and clutches. We have one here in Fort Wayne. I went to them without knowing whether they could or would do the job for me. I went through the door ready to explain why I needed this little round thing relined and started to say ... I need this.... He cut me short and smiled "Yup, we can do that! I have a wheel horse myself!" They can put a better lining on them than they have originally and it is less expensive than a new part. (which is still available).
Don1977 605 #4 Posted November 24, 2010 It will be better to have the lining replaced because the new disk the metal is thiner than the older ones. This will cause the C-clips to ware out. I had to make a spacer to put behind the new disk. I took me two or so set of c-clips before I found the problem.
Aussie 98 #5 Posted November 24, 2010 Does any-one know if the later models without rivets are also rebuildable and if so how thick a new lining should be? The lining in my 416-8 is completely gone. thanks

The lining in my 416-8 is completely gone. thanks I would guess 3/16" thick. I don't have a new one to measure. The one on my Wheel Horse measures 5/32" it's been on there at least 12 years. Maybe some one who has a newer one can measure theirs.

As far as I can see there are no C Clips in a mechanical PTO Chas

With a thiner clutch disk than the grove to the back of the sleeve, when you engage the clutch it puts pressure on the retainer clips and will ware them out. I don't know when they change the thickness, but i would think all the later model Wheel Horses would have the thiner disk.
WH854 45 #9 Posted November 25, 2010 If the bearing race is not all the way against the drive pully, or the pully key is a little long and sticks out your race will not be up tight against drive pully, the race retainers will work loose. the retainers only hold bearing race on the shaft. I have run into that Problem, If the key sticks out a little to far the race will not fit in center of plate right. Chas
WH854 45 #10 Posted November 25, 2010 Oh yea I've found a couple with the race put on with the grove on the outside. Backwards Chas
