Snow blower without a lift tube

Recommended Posts

IthacaJeff

Hi all:

I just picked up a snow blower, 86-42ST01, which like most apparently, does

not have the lift tube/flag. My question, thus, is if it is usable in any real way

without the tube? This blower has no wheels, just skids.

Thoughts?

Oh, I'm in no position to build one, at least not for this winter.

Sure, it would be usable, but with no lift you are just dragging it around (forwards and backwards). If the area that you are cleaning allows for that then you will be OK. Sounds like a common "cents" thingy. :) Pun intended.

You can easily use a 2x4 for the tube, but you will need a flag!

good luck!

I'm sure there are many home brew lift tubes and makeshift flags around. Somebody here could give you a measurement or two and you could rig one up in no time.

There's a guy on Ebay who sells lift flags for $38. Search "wheelhorse lift flag". making the tube, or having it made is easy w/ the dimensions.

Gents:

Thanks for the help. I bought the blower the other day and knew it did not

have the tube and flag, but it was a good enough deal that I went for it

anyway. (BTW, it never ceases to amaze me how many blowers are missing

this piece, and tillers missing the idler pulleys. . .What's up with that?)

I'm not sure if I want to keep the blower, as I really like plowing. In fact,

the only need I see for the blower is to direct the snow into a mountain

for my kids to play on. Still, I'd like to give it a try, hence the need for the

lift tube and flag. On the other hand, I don't want to pay more for a flag

than I did for the entire blower.

I did read over the previous posts about the tube & flag dimensions and

certainly the tube seems simple enough. Perhaps with a little creativity

I can figure out the flag without welding. Or, if someone has something

cool to trade for the blower? (Ag tires, or??)

Thanks guys for the offers of help. This is truly an awesome forum!

Jeff,

For a lift tube and flag, all you have to do is contact Dave (davida178).

Dave made both items for me last winter and they were both Wheel Horse quality including the grade of steel.

Dave sells on ebay, he is in West Warwick, Rhode Island

davida178 is his Red Square ID.

Here is a guy that makes lift tubes. He also makes the flag too.

EDIT - just realised this is the same guy Gary posted about.

You must be from New England cause that's "Yankee ingenuity" I had a friend who always said" It aint the right one but it'll work real good." He was right, that's all that matters.
