IthacaJeff 151 #1 Posted November 11, 2010 Hi WH'ers: I just made a lift cable for my moldboard plow using 1/8" cable and screw-on wire rope clips to make loops. The 1/8" cable is easy to bend and does not create overly bulky loops. However, I thought that I should beef up the cable for my other tractor that will be running a tiller. So, I got the next size larger, 3/16", and it is much harder to work with. I managed to put a fork terminal on one end of the wire cable (crude!), but the other end will need a removable loop or fitting. Using the wire rope clips makes for an overly bulky loop. . . usable but not pretty and potentially may hang up. Note that I am NOT using the lever system under the seat. The cable goes straight through the cable guide and to the hitch. So, my questions: Will a 1/8" steel cable handle the rigors of lifting the tiller? Or, Is there a better way to tie off the end of the cable? Thanks, Jeff in Enfield
Forest Road 594 #2 Posted November 11, 2010 What do you haveto lose if it breaks? Its certainly worth a shot. I've seen guys use a chain to the back of thei machine to raise and lower the tiller. Just a chain or rope tide behind the seat somewhere. Doesnt have to be pretty.
IthacaJeff 151 #3 Posted November 12, 2010 Well, ya' convinced me to just go for it. It definitely won't be pretty, but then again, neither is the tractor! Thanks, Jeff
