:wh: How do you get the deck belts off? It looks like you have to pull a spindle so you can remove the verticle gear & bracket  . Is there an easier way? :)

I usually remove the four bolts that hold the cross shaft bearing supports to the deck.

You can lift the right side high enough to turn the bearing support up around and pull the belts off/install the new ones.

Make sure you buy matched belts not all belts are the exact same size.

I asked them about that. I used to sell automotive belt & they had batch #'s as well as part #'s on them. He said frac. hp belts don't have batch #'s. We'll see.

Got the belts, they do have batch #'s on them. Luckly , they are the same batch. The guy probably didn't know what I was talking about. I still have to get the deck apart to put the belts on as I just cut one off to match up.

Can't get enough room under the verticle sprocket bracket to turn it so I can get the belt off :) . Can I take the snap ring of the top off the horizontal gear & push the spindle down remove the horizontal gear, remove the nut from the end of the vert gear & take that gear off? :wh:

Yes, you can do that...... just make sure you "time" the blades @ 90 degrees when reinstalling the gear(s) or it will be extremely noisy when you kick the PTO in.

Or.........

You can also unbolt the mounting carriage/bracket from the top of the deck shell and lift the entire assembly up out of the way.

Terry, Took the snap ring off but the spindle shaft won't go down but the gear slides up but not enough to remove it from the shaft as it hits on the vert gear. is the spindle just stuck? Do i need to beat the hell ot of it?

No.... don't try to beat the spindle shaft down out - there's a key up there.

I apologize for the misinformation -- I had the newer stamped shell decks in my head. The old rectangular decks are a little different, but unbolting the mounting carriage will get you the access you need to replace the belts.

Ended up pulling the deck. 4 of the 6 bolts broke on the carriage frame  . Now the deck is pretty much all apart just to change the belts. Found 3 places where the deck has pin holes. Don't have time to mess w/it right now. Might just put it back together like it is.

Sense I have the deck all apart, I figured I'd put new blades on it. Took a blade w/me to pick up the rest of my red belts (which didn't come in) I was told the blades were no longer avaliable and they thought they were no longer avaliable from Toro either. Anyone know were I can get any? It's the 34"?? deck.

First you will definitely need to verify the width of cut ~ it will either be 32 or 36 inches.

The blades are no longer available separately, but either size can be bought as set. (one LH & one RH blade) Reminder: make sure you install them on the correct side.

P/N for the 32" set is 8777

P/N for the 36" set is 8014

(Make sure you're sitting down when you ask the price. )

You can also check with Glen's Surplus. (look in the vendors section) I heard they might have some of these blades.

TT, Do you mean 90 degrees to each other so the blades make a "T"?

They're only 67.50 at www.mowpart.com and yes... he means they make a T... 90 degree offset so when they're spinning they can't hit each other.
