856 rear lift cable questions

when i got the tractor the rear hitch had a cable that was wrapped up around the seat pan/belt guard. so the hitch would stay in the horizontal position and there was no way to raise it. there is a factory slot under the seat the cable should run through.from there all i see is a very small maybe 1/4" hole up in the front wall of the pan...

is that where i should run the cable and to what lift rod do i tie it off to? id like to get it back to the way it is supposed to be. what did wheel horse use for cable? what did they use to connect the cable to the lift rod and hitch? i was thinking of using a clevis of sorts for the connections as i have seen some others use.

sorry for all the questions i am a newbie of sorts. I have to say this old '66 is an awesome tractor. she just purrs after sitting for 10+ years. here saving grace was that she was in a 52' trailer out of the elements for all of those years. any help and or diagrams of the running of the cable would be greatly appreciated. thanks for reading.

Do you have a sleeve hitch as in the picture w9jab posted? As this is a varible hitch whereas the towing hitch is different (at least this side of the pond). I'll try to get you a photo. By the way the sleeve hitch is quite rare here and will set you back a pretty penny as I have just found out. Kind regards Jamie.

I have the same hitch as pictured. im just curious as to how the cable is routed beyond where this picture goes. i noticed on the manual lift arm in front that the last hole on the bottom is smaller then the others. my guess is this is where i hook the cable up to. would make sense to me.

The cable should run through a guide like this and then linked to the hole on the lift arm which most suits your application.
