Last Sunday as Burrly and I was tryin to get his truck stop again (didnt get it done  lines to far gone ), my BIL gives me a call and says his nieghbor just dragged a WH out front (rearend locked up) and it asked if I wants it. So I say how much he says Its FREE, hmmmm so i say sure, course he cant tell me what it is, so John and I head over and its a 518h, not to bad of shape nice seat at anyrate.

First off is to clean it up a little then to see if it'll run, puts a battery in it and hook up my remote gas tank, and give it a try. Its runs like a dream only 744 hrs. So i figure the worst with the rearend, busted diff im guessin. Start tearin it down and hmmm the diff is together. Dang the bolt holdin the gear on the hydro is broke and was jammim it! Had to drill and easyout the bolt. Now just waitin on the gaskets and such to see if the hydro is good. If not i have a spare C195 hydro and it'll get a upgrade to a 11 if so.

And I still have to get some pics, so they'll be comein

Steve,

What a score! That's a low hour tractor to boot. Great score. Of course, we want pictures.

Steve,

I have a 516-h and love it. I was going to use it today to aerate the yard but somthing went in the electrical system. I'lll have a fun weekend working it out. Don't know if you have had much experience with the Eaton 7's but I have and will tell you about it. The only thing I don't like is the lack of an oil filter. Other then that I beat it like a rented mule. This is one tough tractor. I know alot of people speak low of the Onan engine but I love mine, and when it hits a load and the govrenor kicks in, look out, and get ready for a beautiful symphony of sound as the twin cylinders buck up and torques through the most demanding of jobs.

I've graded a substantial amount of loam and gravel with mine, and I use it as my tug pulling my box trailer and my 12 x 7 flat deck heaping with fire wood down the road. I have another machine with the Eaton 11 and other then the maintenance factor, I can not tell, see, or feel any differences.

Jack

Well finally got the 518H done and had to give it a whirl around the yard. I had to do a little more to it than just the rearend. The shift cam plate and eccentric needed replaced and the lift mechenismnedded some attention too.

I'll tell ya that Onan is a nice running motor and quiet too, Cut some of the yard and the deck is in pertty good shape also. I took some vids but they was to big  so heres some pics of this little gem.

with the weather gettin nice might have to do a line up again, as I've added a few to the herd :WRS:

Steve,

That's a nice looking tractor. I like the "maroon striped" tractors of the mid to late 80's and early nineties. I wouldn't mind having a 400 or 500 series of that vintage myself. Real nice looking tractor.

See, it catches on! I'll have you guys getting "maroon stripe" fever soon enough. Your already starting to use the nickname for these.

THAT, by the way, is one heck of a free tractor. I looked at a 312-8 the other week which was junk compared to this machine and I would have had to give $350 for it!

Trust me, it didnt look like that when i got it. It sat for at least 4 or 5 yrs, and had at least 5 yrs of grease, dirt and grass on it, and had a parts that were home made on it. Have agout 25hrs and 250 in parts. Like i said earlier at least it has a good seat! cause that is what I thought I got.

The shift cam plate and eccentric as I call it is how you adjust nuetral on the Eaton hydros. On the Eatons it usually has to be replaced with about this many hrs.

Parts 19 and 20and 22
