panyaguas 14 #1 Posted October 31, 2010 I have a 16hp engine that seems to be having problems releasin compression if that makes any sense. It sounds like a car with a dead battery when it cranks, but I am using a freshly charged battery. It will crank, and then it will pause, and then it will crank and pause. But if you take the spark plug out it will crank nice and smoothly. To me it seems like the air from the piston is not releasing right when the spark plug is in. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
TT-(Moderator) 1,129 #2 Posted October 31, 2010 Here's a few ideas: Check all wiring (including ground) connections first. Load test the battery or swap it for another. It might read as being fully-charged, but that doesn't always mean that they're good. Try another starter and/or solenoid. Check valve clearance and/or ignition timing. Pull the cam cover off the side of the block and inspect the ACR mechanism.
