Well I have been lookinh for a long time now at wheel horses. I finally pulled the trigger on one. Its a 1057 with a plow. Cant wait till snow :)

It also came with a deck. But I think its seen better days. It doesnt have any holes but is dented up and some cracks where the rollers attach.

I also got a spare Kohler 10hp with S/G.

Got a pair of tires as well. Don't know what I will do with them but I couldn't say no. Maybe I will put them on my simplicity and have duallys on it.

A Commando 8 came in on the deal too! It turns over but the trans has issues. It shifts between gears but the tractor will not roll backwards in nuetral. Nice project!!

Best part of all is I am the third owner of the 1057. Original owner had it for all but the last five years.

Looks like you got a nice tractor and a project all in one haul both look in pretty good shape, and the manuals and spare parts to boot.

Thanks everybody!

Yes those are studs in the front.

I wounder if I shouls take them off because they may scratch the blacktop. I think I will just leave them in and see what happens.

Does anyone know what may be wrong with the trans on the commando? Like I said it will roll forward but locks up if I push it backwards. Its like the wheel want to roll in opposite directions.

As far as the studs...they are in the front tires only...right. :) Meaning they are not on the drive train...the only way you would scratch blacktop would be trying to push heavy wet snow or ice and be slipping past what you are trying to push. If the studs were in the drive train...then you could dig into the blacktop.

As far as the trans issue,.. does the tractor run?...What does the oil look like in the trans?...Does it shift into all gears easily???...What year commando is it??? It should roll forward and backward in neutral. Is it a gear transmission on auto??? Go from there. :USA:

stevasaurus,

Sorry so long to get back, my internet has been down.

The motor does not currently run. It turns over by hand and seems like everything is tight from what I can tell. The gas tank does not have any gas in it but is wet from varnish. I am thinking it will take some cleaning to get her going.

I have not checked the oil in the trans. What should I be looking for? Water? I did notice the Shifter boot is completly rotted away. That cant be good.

It does however shift into all gears good.

To the best of my knowledge she is a 68

-model- 1 4831

-serial-391352

When I say it wont roll backwards here is what I found. If you lift one rear wheel as you push it backwards, the wheel that you lift turns forward and the wheel on the ground turns backwards.

It looks like a gear transmissin to me, rater than an auto. The tractor says uni-drive though. What does that mean?

Thanks!

It seems like to nice of a tractor to part out. Has surface rust but not rusted through or thin anywhere. The deck even seems solid.

Nick...yes...looking for water (rust color), grit, dirt, filings, etc. Any of those present and I would drain and put in fresh 90W...1 1/2 qts. Without the horse running, you can take off the belt guard and belt...jack up the rear end and put into each gear and turn the drive pulley by hand. The wheels should turn in the direction the selected gear indicates. Turn the pulley in the counter-clockwise rotation. Your trans should be a #5053 three speed uni-drive. (3 forward and one reverse. )

Nick, that tractor should roll free in neutral. See if it rolls free after taking the drive belt off. Don't force it to roll though...could be something wrong inside the trans.

How far are you from Elgin, Ill.????
