Engine Mounting Bolts

Recommended Posts

Pollack Pete

Quick question.I have several Wheel Horse tractors.Every one,up to and including 8 horse power, the width of the engine rests on the frame rails and they have 4 mounting bolts. On the 10 horse and larger engines, the engine is wider than the frame rails and the only place where they're bolted to the frame is on the flywhel side.Clutch side hangs over the frame rail with no bolts. What am I missing here on these larger than 10 horse tractors?

Look up under the right frame rail. :)

Pete, where the engine "hangs over" the frame, the bolts are underneath the engine. The bolts pass through the frame into tapped holes on the underside of the oil pan. A little hard to get to, but you'll find 'em.

Unless the engine has been changed there are bolts up from bottom into the oil pan.

I know a guy who used heavy u-bolts to hold it to the frame

on the pulley side of the engine. The engine hangs over the frame

like 1/2 inch or so. He said that in the old days this was how it

was done? It looks like it should hold fine on his.

The right front bolt for my 1975 B-100 Automatic is a "J"-bolt that is factory.

One of the B series tractor I believe the mid length frame tractor 74 or 75 had the J bolt as there is not room for a bolt from underneath, because the axle is in the way, but I could be wrong???

I used four J bolts to hold the 12hp down on my Rat Rod, no through bolts at all. Works fine
