The A-90 Special had a horizonal engine, I guess that's what made it special :)

Craigslist ad says one is a A-90 and the other a commando 8

I don't know which is which cause the commando could be a v8

Well of the pictures you posted only the top one can be like mine, the bottom is a vertical shaft tractor with 8" rear wheels

Looking at the pictures you posted they are kinda hard to see detail, the top one has the wrong or at least looks like the wrong trans, the A-90 uses a peerless 3 speed, with a steel frame around it.

YA i don't really want the vertical one, but i know a guy who could use it. I just hope the commando is the horizontal one because the guy said the commando's tranny is shot and i would have one to fit it as long as it is horizontal.

with out better pictures it's really hard to say, the bottom pic is a vert no doubt, the hood decals if correct are the 78 to about 80 style, could it be a B-91?? not sure if that is even a model?? the other has clues that it is not a A-90 mine does not have the amp meter, again hard to see but the trans does not look right, but it has the correct hood decals and steering wheel, almost looks to have the wrong hood, I guess go look.

There was a commando 8 and a commando v8. The v8 being a vertical shaft and the "8" being a horizontal shaft

Hopefully this will confuse you just a little bit more

Thats the problem the commando 8 and the a-90 were both vertical and horizontal

The top one looks to be horz and the bottom vert

I just hope the top is the commando

Warning:Unsupervised

You all are correct from what Ive learned on them:

For future ref on this dead post:

A-90 = Vert Briggs 8hp = Lawnmower

A-90 "special" = Horz-- Seen with Briggs/Kohler and odd parts from everything/anything = Special = Garden Tractor

Commando V8= Vert= Kohler KV181S = Lawnmower

Commando 8 = Horz.....Kohler K series 8hp = Garden Tractor

The A-90 special was made from left over warehouse parts. They are unique in many ways.

Maybe' unique in the way unique up on an ugly woman to ask her out so your not seen by anyone?   :laughing-rofl:   You be the judge.. :ychain:

    Hope this helps someone later.
