Snow Thrower Parts Interchangability...

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to buy a local 42" Snow Thrower Model # 96-42ST01 (part number indicates year 1979 model).

It's missing a few pieces however all the parts I need have been discontinued for this model. I specifically need the two chain guards (part #s 6418 & 2162) and the left side height adjustment lever and wheel (part #'s 5157 & 2173).

The above chain guards are still available for a 1987 Snow thrower model # 06-42ST04, however, will the fit the older snow thrower??? The part #s are 109244 and 109218.

As far as replacing the height adjustment lever and wheel, can I just install the two Skids that go on the newer snow thrower and remove the height adjustment system altogether? The skid part #s are 108705.

Any other suggestions?

Here's some pictures of the snow thrower in questions.

I don't know about the guards but you can add the skids and leave the gauge wheel/wheels in place. It is shown in service bulletin

Looks like a functioning unit to me. For $100 bucks I'd definitely take it. I looked at one in much worse shape awhile back. . So long as the auger and chain spins freely take it! Check for bearing play. It either spins smoothly, spins like its rotating on rocks, or is seized up. the chain, bearing, and sprockets can all be had at Tractor Supply or a small engine shop, industrial supply, etc.

If its anywhere near North Jersey I'll come get it if you don't want it. Let me know.

That is a good price for the blower. The P/N for the guard will fit you may have to drill a couple of holes. The top one is plastic but will do the job. :) Here is the thread on my rebuild on the same blower.

You will be suprised what you can do,if you make up your mind to do some thing. :USA:
