Tonys Fleet of 416's and Gensets!!!! :)

Spent today cleaning and tuning all the 416's to be ready for winter.... the big unit in the middle is a 10kw unit for me and then there is a pair of 5kw units should my folks or other family ever be without power for an extended period.

Marty McFly hasn't got anything on me :USA:

How does that center one work out for you? Enough HP to run it? I've got an Onan 4 Cyl. 12 Kw here but I like your idea of the belt driven attachment.

Hi---it runs OK, using the math of 2HP for every 1000 watts I should be running a minimum 20HP motor to get the full rated 10kw. I have run my entire house and have loaded it pretty stoutly. I have intentionally turned on my electric stove, electric clothes dryer, water pump, furnace etc.... all at the same time & the Magnum 16 really starts thumping :) , this is an absolute worst case scenario and one that this unit won't ever really see----but I have been looking for a decent deal on a Briggs Vanguard or similar twin to power it.

KC9KAS----the power goes out here relatively often but ususally not longer than 4 hours. I live on a heavily wooded street and have been thinking that we are over due for an ice storm or similar bad winter event. Besides---it gave me an excuse to get them :USA: One 416 was Stevebo's, A second was Bens from Munson Mass (Wheel Horse 312) and the third came from this years show---although I don't remember who I picked it up from. :) All the tractors and gensets where "deals" that I worked out with trades etc... for stuff I didn't need/want.

Yes Folks... the cord doesn't meet electrician approval.... I basically took a pair of 10 gauge cords and laid them side by side and spliced them together to work as one and handle the amperage.... It ain't preety but it lays across my lawn and works---if it should burst into flames I can re-seed as neccesary!! :wh:

Now Mike... How about some pics of that Chiggs and Chatton powered unit you picked up :):USA: (Another inside joke...)

Docwheelhorse,

A question for you.

What is the 107740 belt size to drive the gererators?

The WH chart, Stens and Dayco shows 1/2"x63" and Gates and Goodyear replace it with a 5/8"x84" belt.

Hi Gary,

the 10KW unit uses a 60" belt and the 5KW unit belt is a touch longer because the generator is physically farther forward.... So I would have to agree that the 63" belt is the one you need. I can measure it later today if you want. My two belts are genuine Wheel Horse so I don't believe the size is printed on them.

Hi Ben---yah I did some work on your 416 (Its the middle one) It got a different Seat and hood and some other small touches along the way.

Hi Dale---2 HP per 1000 watts so the 5000's need a minuimum of a 10 for full rated and run real nice with a 12. There are some 3000 watt Wheel Horse units out there that would run on anything....

Very nice ! :USA: That is quite an investment in generators.

I have all but given up my project to build a generator for the Charger. It looks like I can get a good used generator on Craig's List for considerably cheeper than the generator head to build one for the horse (I would use the 7 kW head from Harbor Freight for $299).

We'll see, but the project is on hold.

:wh: :)

If you phone in your order, you can use the 20% coupon for the generator. That'll save you $60 and may make it more affordable. :)

Yeah, that is/was the plan.

The funny thing is that the last time I was at the store I was going to buy it and use the coupon. They had none there so I used the coupon on something else!

I have about 10 of those coupons now!

:wh: :)

:USA::)

They no longer carry it in the store (as of this spring when I bought one.) You can order it via the Internet or phone in the order to use the coupon.

You can get all the coupons you can print out at http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?p=32669555
