rhamm17 3 #1 Posted September 25, 2010 I have a C-161 with a K341 Kohler which I just bought for $100 and am trying to get running. I sat outside for a number of years unused. I rewired the tractor and replaced the points, condenser, plug wire, etc. Good spark now. I rebuilt the carb and adjusted the float. Tried various carb settings with no success. This engine starts for a few seconds then floods and dies and will not restart. Something is wrong with the carb. I have a B-100 with a 10 HP 241 Kohler which runs great. Can I use the 241 carb on the 341 engine to test out this engine for further problems?
gwgdog66 23 #2 Posted September 25, 2010 Sounds to me like the float isn't set correctly or may have a pinhole in it.
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted September 25, 2010 I've ran in to it many times from tractors that sat for long periods, the float gets a hole from setting on the alum bowl, pull the float and shake it to see if it has gas in it. most of the time the hole will be on the bottom opposite the hanger, but not always, bad float would be the first thing to check. Lane Ranger 11,410 #4 Posted September 25, 2010 Amen to Kelly's insight. I could not believe my B-80 carb had a similar problem. I could not get the carb to set correctly and the governor kept searching like it was getting air. Then I noticed a very small drip of gas under the bowl. I had antoerh carb so I changed it and started to take the old carb apart. I found some gunk down in the bottom of the bowl that looked like honey-yellow old gas globbed up in two spots. I used a small screw driver to remove it. And underneath the glob were two holes -one about an 1/8 of asn inch in size! I guess a previous owner must have "fixed it" with whatever was available to stop it up. Anyway it was a surprise to me.
