What length linear actuator?

Recommended Posts

Pirate

Just wondering what length linear actuator is the most used, on a WH for attachment control?

I have a LA that a tenant left behind, but it's about 3' long, unextended.

I'm going to shorten it, and didn't want to make it too short. My first idea for it, is on a lift, for the snow plow, I recently picked up. I want to make a bucket, and need a way to lift it. I may use the LA to tilt the bucket, figuring the bucket will clear the ground, when tilted back.

I guess you can tell, I haven't got it all planed out yet!

At least it looks like shortening the LA should be an easy job.

Save Old Iron

Pirate,

make a mockup of the actuator using pvc pipe to simulate the actautor body and a wooden dowel which inserts into the pipe to simulate the actuator rod.

Drill the mounting holes in the pvc and wood dowel to match what you have. Mount it on the system you wish to move and then manually move the lift thru its full range. Have someone take a marker and mark out the starting and stopping points on the wood dowel to give you a clue on what length of actuator ror you will need to end up with.

Measure twice and cut once. For about $1.50 in materials, you can make accurate, well thought out measurements.
