I had one of those Kohler OHV 15 singles in a 2004 Classic and it just didn't seem to have anywhere near the grunt of the K341/Magnum 16. I would find a good used one and spend your money there.

I also agree just seem like the newer motors don't have the grunt as with the older ones. And in my area you can pick up a descent older kohler cheaper than the newer ones but a little harder to find..... :)

Kohler 16hp Magnums are still available new. They are about $1,400 new from Northern Tool, and here is a link for Small engine warehouse.

http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/produc...588&desc=Kohler Engine 16hp Magnum Horizontal 1-1/8"x3-25/32" Keyed Shaft, Electric Start, Fuel Tank

Still made, just not the orig spec. The difference you have here is you have to pull the fuel tank and route your own throttle and choke linkage as well as pull off the ignition key that comes on the front of the engine. Other than that, your are still able to get a new replacement engine.

I have a Kohler 12hp old style and a 12.5 hp Kohler OHV both on 312-8's. I prefer the older motor hands down to the OHV. The OHV just doesn's seem to have the low end grunt of the cast iron. And the OHV has an aluminum block which the PO stripped the fuel pump mount. Thank god for Heli-coils. With the lost weight of the cast iron it wheelies much easier.
