Hi, fellas (and gals),

Well, I came into a real treasure (for me) today. The funny thing is, I had actually seen, even handled, this trailer before.

Some of our older members may remember that my first Horse was given to me by my best friend when his sister tragically died and he found it among her belongings as they were cleaning out the garage of her house in Connecticut. We road tripped to pick it up along with some of her other things that were left to my friend's family. We brought back this trailer along with what became my tractor, but my buddy took the trailer for use at his house. That was almost three years ago, and I had almost completely forgotten about the trailer. Maybe old age creeping in.....

At any rate, a few days ago my buddy (who shares an office with me) saw me checking Red Square at lunch time and announced out of the clear blue that he really didn't use the trailer that much and thought I should have it to add to my collection. This morning he and his son dropped it off with a wink and a hand shake and went on their way. Good friends are a rare treasure in this world!

So have a look-see at the pix. Aside from a little surface rust and some minor dings, this unit is solid as a rock! It'll get a new coat of paint, new decals, and I'm debating putting a sheet of pressure treated plywood in the bed to protect it from shovel scrapes and such.

The Model Number has worn off, but the serial number is visible. Any ideas what model/year this might be?

Even the underside is clean and solid. My buddy's (ex) brother-in-law took good care of his stuff!

Looks in great shape Duff. Good friend! I have the same cart and it is a great cart. I know mine was purchased in 1977. I will check out the serial and model number today just for the heck of.

Looks good. I would NOT add the plywood to it as it is a pita to clean out and then you get water and dirt under and tends to cause more harm than good.

I would seriously consider putting in a piece of plywood, just laying it in when you're hauling basically anything, BUT, then removing it to dry if you think there is any chance moisture under it.

Doing this will greatly reinforce the box when hauling-moving & reduce any bottom dings. Cheap & great insurance to preserve the trailer.

Glen, my plan is to just lay a sheet of pressure treated plywood in there when I'm using the trailer to haul heavy loads. My buddy had stripped the bed and applied a solid coat of POR, but you can see where the sheet metal has deflected from previous loads. Stevebo, you are right - to put plywood in there permanently would be a recipe for trouble - good point! BTW, my buddy who gave me the trailer knew your grandfather from the fire service in CT. Small world!

Duff, that cart is identical to the one I bought a few months back, right down to the no model number and just a serial number. I put a picture of mine in the gallery with my thoughts on the year and model number, I researched for quite a while in my model conclusion. I decided that mine was made of 2 year models because of the tilt mechanism and tongue. Should be a 10cf dump cart.

From the tons of drawings I looked at, I drew the conclusion that mine was a 1981 cart body with a leftover 1980 hitch on it. Yours could be a twin to mine. Keep in mind that most were made for Wheel Horse by someone else.

I had looked at yours in the picture gallery and thought mine was probably of about the same vintage. Guess it really doesn't matter too much - it's not like I need to order up a bunch of parts that are model-specific!

Not to sure who made them, when I had asked, someone said they had another brand that looked the same just a different color. Can't recall which brand they had said. I almost want to say they said they had a craftsman dump cart. I can't for the life of me, figure out how they got 10 cubic foot from the inside dimensions, of this cart. Tried to figure it, but it always came up a little different.
