Duff 206 #1 Posted September 17, 2010 So, one of my 312's is an '89, the other an '88. The '89 came with all its parts. The '88 I've rebuilt using parts I've been fortunate to get from members here (thank you!), Fleabay and small engine shops. The seat springs under the '89's seat are sort of like the old-style bed springs - small at one end, widening out at the other. While they ride OK, they are tearing up the paint on my fender pan. They've gotta go! The '88, on the other hand, has a pair of springs that look sort of like oversize valve springs - no taper. These came with plastic protective caps and they don't widen out when under load. The ride is a little stiffer but they haven't so much as scuffed my paint. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got them (or what they came off of). The IPL's I've looked at aren't particularly clear on the exact shape of the springs so I'm not sure what to order. If someone has the correct part number for the straight springs or has a pair they'd be willing to sell, I would be extremely grateful! Thanks to all! Unfortunately, those are the ratty-ass bed spring type I'm trying to get away from. When they compress they squish out and tear up the paint.
