rmaynard 15,964 #2 Posted September 16, 2010 Were you careful not to damage the seal on a rough edge of the key slot? Did you fully seat the seal? Do you have any play in the bearing? Are you sure that the oil is coming from the seal? Can you tell if it is coming from the inside of the seal or the outside? These are all areas where I would check. Is it a Kohler brand seal or an after-market one? Most NAPA auto parts store carry Kohler parts along with their own brand. If you didn't use Kohler, I'd try one. Since seals are not that expensive, I would remove it. Get a new seal and be sure to thoroughly clean the shaft. File any burrs from the keyway. Lubricate the shaft and inside of the new seal with bearing grease, or motor oil, and insert it using an appropriate tool to make sure that it is seated properly. Then check it again for leaks.
