rjr 0 #1 Posted September 8, 2010 I would like to mow a little faster than 2nd(H) and a little slower than 3rd(H). I figure that the easiest way is to get a slightly smaller transmission input pulley. Anyone tried this or have thoughts on the idea?
SAM58 30 #2 Posted September 8, 2010 THERE IS NO DOUGHT IT COULD BE DONE. THAT WILL EITHER SPEED UP ALL GEARS, OR SLOW DOWN ALL GEARS. I FEEL YOU PAIN BECAUSE ALL MY TRACTORS ARE 8 SPEEDS. BIGGER TIRES WOULD SPEED UP MOWING IN 2ND GEAR AND LOOK GOOD AS WELL. DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD BE ENOUGH TO NOTICE. FENDER CLEARANCE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM AS WELL. HAVE TO READJUST DECK HEIGHT THOUGH.... I HAVE A 1998 314-8 THAT REALLY MOVES IN 2ND & REVERSE. MY 1985 416-8 SEEMS SLOWER. :USA:
Horse Fanatic 51 #3 Posted September 8, 2010 I have a 312-8 and I swapped an engine pulley from a hydro (about 5 1/4") instead of the original 4" pulley and it speeds it up in all gears, I like it. That's the easy part, finding the perfect belt length that would disengage when the clutch pedal was depressed with a bit tougher, but I found one and it does work fine. jhunsch 20 #4 Posted September 8, 2010 I put 26" tall lugs on my B60. They just clear the fender but not more than 6psi. I think they look great. But when pulling in 1st high i run out of power fast, in 2nd low range I can stand it up on to wheels, so taller is faster at a Price to Power. I know some one than change pullys and that worked out well. trail and error, good luck. Changing pully and belts is mostly the lowest cost way to gain more speed. I hope this helps. Pirate 0 #5 Posted September 10, 2010 On my 414-8 I replace the trans pulley with a 4 1/2" one, and that gave me a higher speed in all gears. The low, low gear is still very low. I now mow in 2H ans sometimes on long straight passes, in 3H
Pirate 0 #6 Posted September 10, 2010 FYI, the shorter belt I used with the 4 1/2" pulley, was a 79" Gates 6979 Powerated Belt.
kloe0699 12 #7 Posted September 10, 2010 Good question. I have the same problem. My Raider 12 is too fast to mow in 2nd and my Raider 10 is too slow in 2nd? My 314-8 is perfect for mowing in 2nd gear but I have been tilling with it all summer in 1st low Kevin
