Greg Parnell 6 #1 Posted September 7, 2010 1-) when putting on the the steering gear on the bottom of the steering shaft should it be a slip fit or press fit before you install the spring pin? Mine seems very tight and I can't get it on. 2-) For the K161 and K181 engines what is a replacement number for the small air filter for the carb? Greg Parnell 6 #3 Posted September 9, 2010 Thanks for the air filter numbers. How about the gear question? I believe it should be a slip fit, am I correct?
Indy w h 5 #4 Posted September 9, 2010 The steering shaft and gear are a machined fit If your having troubles fitting the gear on the shaft just put it in a vise and take some emery cloth and sand it till the gear fits. Indy
sorekiwi 761 #5 Posted September 9, 2010 The tighter the fit on the shaft the better, but you do still need to be able to turn it a little so you can line the holes up. You probably have some burrs where the holes are. A little clean up with a file and some emery paper should fix it.
