Losing my mind

Well i am rebuilding a charger 12 that i purchased is the Wheel Horse show in Arendtsville. Now the K301 that was on it I did a complete restore and now it will not start. I took the starter generator off and installed a 12v starter. I installed a different key switch and am piecing together a wire-harness. Now if i remove the spark plug wire and install a spark tester then i can get a semi-spark. If i remove that and just try and ground out the plug i get no spark. I can not get spark for anything. I do not know if it would be a no ground condition because of the paint or whats up....... Can anyone supply me with picture and information of what i should be doing or maybe what i have done wrong. Is their a way that i can just install a external coil to see if that is the problem???? From the coil behind the flywheel i have the one wire that goes to the point and the other wires off the winding to the rectifier(regulator) whatever it is. Is there any other wires that i need to install????? Some-One help i am in a loss and i would love to hear this thing fire up........

Need more information.

What year Charger 12?

What type of ignition system?

Based on what you have posted so far, this is either an early '68 (which would have had a starter/generator and 12VDC battery ignition), or it's a bitsa -- which is bits & pieces from different tractors. :USA:

If you aren't sure, see if you can get some pictures on here. Help us help you. :)

sounds like a pieced together tractor, but post pictures, and we can go from there.

Here is one picture of the front. When you guys say a piece together are you referring to the engine or the whole thing? And how do you add more then one photo? And thanks for helping me out!!! I want to get this thing going.. The black external coil is just me trying to bypass the internal(behind the flywheel)

If that were the original 1970 motor it would have probably been the breakerless ignition (no points). The coil is different (and I can see in your pic where it was attached) and there is a trip switch (can't remember the exact name) behind the flywheel that has 2 wires, one goes interenal and one to the bottom of the coil after it meets up with the ground wire from the ignition switch. Also the original motor would have been a starter.

Just a shot in the dark here, :) but make sure the ground wire coming off the internal coil is perfectly clean, that you are getting a good ground. I had this happen to me once, where I would sometimes have intermitting spark or no spark at all. :USA:

Just so i am getting this straight here.. I should have the two wires from the windings to the regulator and then a wire from the internal (behind flywheel) coil to the key ground then to the points. Or is their two wires from the coil??? Wireing is not my stronge point here. If someone would have pictures that would help me out a heck of a lot......

Ok well I finally had some time to pull the flywheel off and do some checking. Came to find that the magneto is bad. I also found that the coil i was trying to use to bypass the magneto with was bad. I tried a new coil and she fired up and purred beautifully. Now i am wondering if anyone has a magneto that they are willing to part with???? Or does anyone have some pictures that they can post of their coil setup. I was it to look clean. Also when it was running at idle i noticed that a little fuel was spitting from the opening of the carb. Can anyone give me some insight on whats going on their. Plus does anyone have a carb that they are willing to part with. Plus do i have to use a condenser on the coil?????
