857 motor paint

Hi everyone, I am getting ready to paint my 857s' motor it is a k181s and I am having trouble finding info on correct color. I see some black and all sheilds Wheel Horse red I see some all Wheel Horse red the one that is on there know seems to be red on oil pan black on rest of block and red on shilds and starter. I just want to do it right so please help. Thanks

If you're doing a "correct" as-new restoration, EVERYTHING gets painted red - and that even includes the spark plug wire and the exposed part of the spark plug.

The engines were painted by their manufacturer, so they might be a shade or two off from the actual tractor color. (quite often, they were a little darker - with much better paint "quality")

Just to expound on TT's post. Your black engine block is a replacement. As TT said, the originals were painted red ALL over.
