capn knuckles 0 #1 Posted September 4, 2010 Ok,heres the deal, got 8hp briggs all mounted up in the 657.The problem is the center point on the crankshaft is 5 1/2 inch from the base, on the 6hp motor that was in it,it measured 4 1/2.Now with the belt being higher it rubs the guard.Howcan i fix this and is it going to pose any more issues. The 5.5" center point im refering to is if you had the motor sitting on a table it would be the distance from the table to the center point of the crankshaft. bitten 134 #2 Posted September 4, 2010 You can modify the belt guard so it doesnt rub.
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted September 4, 2010 I just did the same swap on my 656 I put a 8hp Kohler in it from a 857 it was a bolt in with no mods at all, You did remove the riser plate the tucky was bolted to right?? you will have to modify the belt guard or find a kohler belt guard like I did, the only difference is the mounting tab on the Tucky is in the middle, the kohler is on top, a fairly easy mod, if you need more info just ask, I can get pic's or measurements. My bad I just reread the post, you used a briggs, not sure what all you need to do, sorry, I do have a 8hp briggs in a A-90 special but it is newer, and a 8hp briggs in a 69 work horse but it don't fit very good, the PO gave up trying to complete the swap.
