FarmerJim 5 #1 Posted August 17, 2010 Guys How do you shorten the "wound wire" jacket around a throttle cable? I remember seeing this done but too many years have gone by and I have slept since then and sure don't want to completely ruin a brand new cable but the jacket is just too long for my application. :)

Kelly 1,028 #3 Posted August 17, 2010 I pull the wire back, not out, but far enough, to cut the housing I use a cut off wheel in a hand held grinder, it makes a clean cut, I would think if you can hold it tight a hacksaw would work, make sure to deburr the hole after cutting it. rmaynard 14,952 #5 Posted August 17, 2010 On the lever-type controls, such as the ones on B & C series, it is impossible to pull the wire back far enough to cut the housing without first removing it from the lever. You can carefully spread the clamping area of the lever where the housing is attached, slide the housing past the wire, cut it, slide it back, cut the wire, and if you are satisfied with the length of both the wire and the housing, re-clamp the housing back into the lever.
