Belt help on a 42" RD deck

Recommended Posts

persof

I recently bought a 42"rear discharge mower deck and while it has a belt that drives the blades that one is not long for this world. The toro website says to buy a belt # 6738 so I called jacks Small Engines and a few days later the new belt shows up but even if I compress the idler pulley tensioner ALL the way it is still short??? It's almost two inches till I could get to the edge of that pulley. The old belt fits fine?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Francis

If the idler pulley is bolted to the idler arm assy in the hole furtherest from the left pulley, you may have to move it on the Idler arm Assembly to the hole closest to the left blade drive pulley. That will give you some space for the new belt.

I ran into this on the deck I rebuilt earlier this year.

I looked up the parts diagram on RCPW for your deck the first illustration calls for the belt number you listed. The second illustration calls for belt # 106125

Both belts are (4L890K 1/2 x 89 inch belt)

Gary,

There is a second hole on the idler arm assy that I could use but I would have to drill it out to a larger size and tap it and it still would not buy me enough room to use the new belt.

When I called jacks Small Engines the other day I thought I heard the person on the phone say that this WH belt # 6738 is 89 1/8 inches long.

The old belt that I removed from my deck measures 89 5/8 inches long.

The new belt measures 85 1/2 inches long?? Could WH have miss-marked it?

Thanks

Francis

In my book the 75-42MR01 deck uses spindle belt 106125 =1/2"x89".

The 6738 belt is 1/2"x86" and fits the side discharge deck 75-42MS01.

This is the typical confusion using the parts lists at Toro since the manuals are shared. Try here

http://www.partstree.com/parts/

Type Toro in the 2nd box and the 75-42MR01 in the 3rd box.

Adding - Parts Tree has it wrong also. The ist page at the Toro MPV has it correct and the second is wrong.
