neil 2,410 #1 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi all can anyone tell me if they have tried to put bigger wheels on the lawn ranger can i put 8inch wheel on the front & a 12 on the back if i change the wheel hubs so really what im asking is , is the axle shaft the same size as my comando 8 as i have some spare wheels that would give me a better ground clearance than the lawn ranger wheels Hope you can help
dgoyette 12 #2 Posted August 16, 2010 I believe you will need to change the front spindles as well. Might need to swap to a smaller drive pulley too as speed will change. I think you will need to trim the fenders as well depending on what year Ranger it is. Post pics if you do it.

Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted August 17, 2010 If your saying you will need to change the hubs that tells me you have a 65 or newer ranger you will have to remove the fenders to fit 12" rims on the back or cut them up so much you might as well pull them, the front you will need diff. spindles, or I think you could use 60's sears suburban wheels I think they might fit the ranger spindles, the drive pulleys are the same. riordanii 0 #6 Posted August 21, 2010 the Lawn Ranger I just bought off ebay has a set of 12" wheels on the rear with a set of good year tractor tires....as I was taking it apart to start cleaning it up, I noticed that someone had made some spacers to lift the rear fenders to clear the larger tires. neil 2,410 #7 Posted August 21, 2010 That looks great i was wondering if it was going to be a big operation in converting it & if it was possible now i know it works i think i will give it a go thanx for the pic
landsurveyor 2 #8 Posted August 25, 2010 Hi Neil, I did wonder if you would go for the lawn ranger, I assume it was the one on ebay last week? You must have quite a collection now! I must admit after seeing your collection, I did buy some chrome hubcaps from USA, at great expense, they do look good though! If you ever fancy selling your GT14, let me know........ Would be interested to see your progress on the ranger. Simon :)
riordanii 0 #9 Posted August 25, 2010 I have the hubs that I took off the tractor in the pic above if you're looking for some. I myself, am looking for another hood for my tractor if you know of one. I've got this thing in about a hundred pieces getting ready to clean it up and repaint it. A set of 8" aluminum wheels will be going back on the rear with a set of 18x9.50-8 Carlisle super lugs. Other than the hood, I was suprised to see that it was pretty solid given it's age...oh, and the hubs I have are 5 lug, 1" ID with good key ways.
neil 2,410 #10 Posted August 25, 2010 hi simon i was going to go for lawn ranger but decided not to in the end im trying to save some money to import an RJ just waiting for a good one to come up for sale hope all is well this is my latest aquisition Attached Image
landsurveyor 2 #11 Posted August 31, 2010 Hi Neil, All is good, hope you are well also. That is one fine looking tractor!! Hope your hunt for the RJ comes up trumps. I am off to the Great Dorset Steam Fair (www.gdsf.co.uk for anyone who wants a look?!) this weekend, always lots of horses there if you have the time.... As I asked in my previous thread, I am after a GT14 or something a bit different, getting a bit bored with the Raiders and the like, but can afford an RJ - sadly! Take care.
