Deck problem

Recommended Posts

Steve in Mo

I have a 1978 C-101 81-10K801 I was told a 37in. deck 78315 would fit. Well it does but rubbs the front left tire when you turn even a little to the left. Do I somehow have it mounted improperly or what??? Any suggestions will be greately appreciated.

The chassis-mounted tach-a-matic unit can be moved back. The holes in the

frame will line up about two inches aft of the standard location. Check the

present location and determine if its in the correct place, or needs to be moved.

The drive belt may need to be resized.

Your deck was used on the 300 series tractors with 6" front rims and 15x6x6 rubber. The smaller rims/tires was Wheel Horse's way of fixing the clearance issue. Swapping to the smaller front rims/tires would fix the problem but would also require swapping the front spindles to a set off a 300 series to keep your tractor level.

PS- If you elect to relocate the location of the T-A-M unit back as suggested

above, you may have to drill a hole in the deck mounted harness forward

of the standard slot in order to engage the lever that raises or lowers the deck.

I did that some years ago in order to adapt another brand of deck to a C-111.

Attempting to move the mid hitch back will only result in the mower deck hitting the right rear tire.

If it would have been that simple, Wheel Horse wouldn't have installed the smaller front wheels/tires during the years the 37" two-blade deck was offered.

I don't have a straight in or straight down picture, but you can almost see the close proximity of the deck to the rear tire in this photo:

TT-

Are you saying that there is no room to spare in the C-101 frame -front to back-

so that the deck could not be made to fit in between front and rear wheels?

Steve owns this deck and it would be good if he could make it work with just

a little modification. I would try unless there is something I'm not figuring.

I don't have a picture of the 37" two-blade / side-discharge deck for the garden tractors, but the shell design is the same as this lawn tractor deck:

It is angled as much as possible to allow the blades to overlap and there just isn't much room to spare at the tires.

Okay, I found a picture of the 37" deck installed on a 310-8. Its a tight squeeze

on the rear right wheel. There might be enough leeway to make it fit on Steve's

C-101, but it would be tight.
