BPjunk 184 #3 Posted April 6, 2008 Glenn, Once electric start got popular in the mid 60's (1964 to 1966) the recoil start model engines did sell too well. The aluminum block Tecumseh model H-60 that Wheel Horse used in models like the 603, 604 and 605 had a tendancy to wear quicker thus the tractor did not last and may have been discarded. The 1966 model 656 did have a Tecumseh HH-60 engine which used a cast iron block so you will see these still around. The mid 60's was a growing time in the United States in both economy and horse power, yeah you could still buy a 283 V-8 in a Chevy in 1966 but if you bought the Corvette you were buying the 396 V-8. And with Wheel Horse offering a 8hp Kohler in the same frame as a 6hp ..... well folks bought the 8hp. I hope your doing well and I hope you finaly got a steering wheel for your 606! Hard to keep track when you have over 50 tractors, Norm ? You better get some of those index cards and take an inventory. :D
