Cessna 1 #1 Posted July 31, 2010 I was cutting the grass when I had to make a very sharp left turn. I heard a sound coming out of the steering column like the gear (steering) jumped out. Is this a common problem? How is it corrected?

There is a collar below where the shaft goes thru the dash that can be loose...
Raider 2 #3 Posted July 31, 2010 My 312 will pop when I make a hard turn one way. I checked it out and it is the steering wheel shaft gear going past the end of the fan gear and jumping. Something is out of whack up front but I can't remember right now what it is, something with the tie rods or spindles allow the horizontal steering shaft to travel too far in one direction. I'll have to have a closer look before Winter rolls around.
C-Series14 15 #4 Posted July 31, 2010 You can shim the horizontal shaft behind the steering shaft mount. That will bring the fan gear closer to the steering shaft...

Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted August 2, 2010 The lower steering gear mount can have a broken ear where it is bolted to the frame, they jump then also.
