hcminis 1,700 #1 Posted July 29, 2010 Went to get a couple parts from the local mower shop that used to be a Dealer and came home with this little jewel. Does need a good bath. Not bad for $25.00 Needs a new basket. Anyone know of a place to pick up a new basket. Searched the R.S. messages and couldn't find any links. Plus, what are the two narrow brackets for on the side? Any literature would be helpful also. Thanks in advance
stevasaurus 23,281 #2 Posted July 29, 2010 Nice score there. I found the manual you need in the Wheel Horse Tractors Manuals Group #6. If you are not a member, you will have to join (free) to access the manual. It appears what you have is a 31" 1971-1974 Lawn Sweeper 7-2511. I am guessing that the brackets you ask about are to flip the basket over so as to empty the sweeper without taking it off the tractor. Any place that makes boat covers, etc. should be able to fix or make a new fabric piece for you. The manual groups are linked here in the tractor related section on the top "links". hcminis 1,700 #3 Posted July 29, 2010 Steve, Thank you sir. I assumed the brackets were for dumping but can't figure out how Will check the Yellow Pages for some sewing people....lol
whfan74 2,072 #4 Posted July 29, 2010 Picked up one as well a couple weeks back but your basket looks mint compared to mine. I was planning on hitting up a canvas shop to see what they can do. When I get around to it, or if you do first, maybe we can get two ordered at the same time and save each other some money.
stevasaurus 23,281 #5 Posted July 29, 2010 D.J. looking at your pictures...I am thinking that you lift up on one of the handles on either side in the front. That tips the basket over backwards, and then one of the handles would tip the basket farther. I am thinking the lever on the side with the small bracket is maybe a way to tie some thing so you can dump with out getting off the tractor. If you join up with Scott, plus Lane Ranger did a video last fall picking up his leaves (you may want to search that)...there won't be any leaves in northern Indiana this fall. If you figure out how to tip that basket...can you put a picture up here? thanks here is the link for Lane ranger...
Butch 194 #6 Posted July 29, 2010 Yes, boat canvas shops, auto interior people and awning/umbrella people should be able to fix you up with no problem, unless the problem is money! Sunbrella makes very nice materials for everything under the sun and is widely used by those with a sewing machine!! Butch S. Jersey
hcminis 1,700 #7 Posted July 29, 2010 Steve, joined the Yahoo group and downloaded the manual. Shows the rope actually goes through the loop in front then through both brackets then the last loop on top by the release. Thanks again for pointing me to the correct group. Butch, found a Marine shop close to work and hope to bring the basket with me on Monday to see if they can either fix or make a new one. OH...Money...who cares about money when it comes to .... Thanks again guys.

hcminis 1,700 #11 Posted July 30, 2010 HA....Marshall. Nobody comes this far out and does a drive by. If you come this far out in the sticks you meant to and better stop. LOL OH.....Bought an A-81 w/ bagger also but haven't got it home yet. No room in the back when I got this sweeper. Look to be in fairly good shape. PLUS, it was only $25.00 also. I know I know...not much of a mower but couldn't pass it up for $25.00. Will get some pictures when she makes it home. Needed at least 43" of clearance and with my topper on I only have 32" so will have to take it off....Topper that is.
Red Horse 33 #12 Posted July 30, 2010 D.J There may be a chance that this sweeper was manufactured for WH by Parker. They are still the predominant manufacturer of lawn sweepers and they may just have the parts and information you may be needing. Good luck in any event. TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #13 Posted July 31, 2010 There may be a chance that this sweeper was manufactured for WH by Parker. They were made by Lambert for Wheel Horse. Here's a link to the current model on the Midwest Products website: MH481 sweeper link I hope you have better luck getting in touch with them than I have.
bowtieguy 334 #14 Posted July 31, 2010 Always wondered why I got a Lambert manual along with some WH manuals years ago ...now I know...guess I should try to find the PO again and see if he has a sweeper hidden somewhere? ....thanks for the tip, TT
hcminis 1,700 #15 Posted July 31, 2010 Yup, found that out on the Lamberts shortly after I got the sweeper. The search function here works pretty good. Thanks for the tip Terry. Did leave them a message on Wednesday but as you said no return as of yet. Suppose to see if the local marine guy can do some heavy duty sewing on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks again
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #16 Posted July 31, 2010 There's a company in my area that makes/repairs canvas awnings for campers, store fronts, etc. That would be another option - if you have access to one in your area.
